rs pura, Feb 19: Reiterating demand of his party to equip the State Accountability Commission (SAC) with independent investigating agency, patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today regretted that the present dispensation headed by National Conference has adopted lackluster approach in investigating the corruption complaints lodged with the anti-graft panel.
Addressing a meeting of party workers at Simbal area, Mufti Sayeed observed that those facing corruption charges have managed to get stay orders from court of law but the government on its part has not taken any serious initiative to get such orders vacated because those at the helm of the affairs were themselves not interested to properly investigate such corruption cases. "Without its own independent investigating agency SAC has to depend upon other organizations for investigation of corruption cases so political interferences in such investigations is inevitable", he observed and added that corruption cases can not be investigated independently with providing SAC its own independent investigation agency.
"During our three year tenure we had brought accountability and transparency in the government because we had never compromised with our principles", he said and reminded the gathering that his government had established the SAC in 2003 with the objective of curbing corruption in high places. The institution was the equivalent of the proposed Lokpal and brought even the Chief Minister of the state under its purview.
Calling upon party workers to spread message of PDP in every nook and corner of the state, he said that after emerging as a biggest political force in Kashmir Valley next target of his party was to provide a secular alternative to the people of Jammu region. "We have been receiving overwhelming response of the people of Jammu region", he said and assured that gathering regional aspirations of all regions and sub-regions would be fulfilled by the PDP. He especially mentioned towards vision document prepared by the PDP by incorporating wishes and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions.
Pointing towards the problems of 1947 refugees Poonch and Muzaffarbad, Sayeed assured the gathering that his party, in any higher level discussion to be held in future for solution of Kashmir, would vociferously take up the issue of these refugees. "It is not the issue of monitory benefit but it is a question of the dignity of these refugees, who deserved some token grants", he said.
Speaking on the occasion, former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beigh reminded the gathering that PDP led regime had set at example of good governance but the present government has reversed the whole process of governance and development. He regretted that the Chief Minister of the state has no time to solve basic problems of the people.
Former Rajya Sabha member T S Bajwa, Hussain Ali Wafa, Bhushan Dogra and others also spoke on the occasion.
