Harsh, SSH launch scathing attack on Jammu ministers | Pampered Kashmir -- I | | Neha Jammu, Feb 19: The Congress-led UPA Government on February 2 once again dismissed Jammu province as irrelevant and accorded a very preferential treatment to the already rather pampered and appeased Kashmir. It all happened due to the role of two senior Congress leaders at top chairs. The case in point is the sanction of an additional package of Rs 356 crore exclusively for Dal Lake, Kashmir. The decision to earmark more funds for Kashmir was taken in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and it was one of them who also has gone to national capital to persuade the authorities there to sanction an additional package for Dal Lake. Lauding AICC president and UPA chairperson the two top commanders of Congress said that it was only because of them that the Union Government granted additional funds for Dal Lake. The duo also claimed that the Congress is the one party that has never ever discriminated between Jammu and Kashmir, as it is committed to the principle of justice and equity. The latest decision, which could be construed as another glaring example of discrimination with Jammu province, indicates the nature of the Congress party and exposes the hollowness of its claim that it believes in and practices the principle of justice and equity. As expected, the decision of the Union Government to make humiliating distinctions between Jammu and Kashmir and grant additional funds to Kashmir evoked a very strong reaction from the Panthers Party, which has been fighting for justice and fair play for Jammu in its own style and suggesting reorganisation of the state as a lasting solution to the problems the people of this province have been facing since long. The Panthers Party stands for separate Chief Minister, separate Assembly, separate recruitment agencies, separate directorates, separate planning board and separate funds for Jammu province. The man who took on and condemned the Congress and the Government of India was none other than Harsh Dev Singh, MLA from Ramnagar and former Cabinet Minister. Denouncing the Government of India for excluding Jammu province from the additional package and terming its decision as the "most blatant act of regional discrimination", Harsh Dev bemoaned the neglect of Jammu lakes, including Mansar and Surinsar. He also did not spare the NC-Congress coalition government in the state. In fact, he lambasted the state government for its "apathy and neglect of the tourist resorts of Jammu region and intentional non-projection of demands with respect to their development". To be more precise, Harsh Dev charged the State Government with "projecting only the Valley-based projects to the utter neglect of Jammu region, despite the fact that more than one crore tourists, including pilgrim tourists, are visiting Jammu each year". "The last year figures pertaining to tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir indicated that out 1.2 crore tourists who visited the State, 95 lakh were pilgrim tourists visited Jammu only. Despite the huge tourist inflow to this part of the State, its tourism development had been given the most (shabby) treatment," he said in a statement. He further said: "Total sanction of ` 1100 crore, including ` 356 crore sanctioned yesterday for Dal lake and ` 386 crore for Wullar lake defied all logic…The government needs to verify, in the first instance, the progress registered on the ground vis-à-vis funds released for Dal Lake with due cognisance of all financial irregularities committed in the name of Dal Development…Hundreds of crores are being siphoned off by vested interests in the process". It needs to be underlined that Harsh Dev had personally taken up this issue with the Prime Minister and urged him to direct the concerned authorities to "develop tourist infrastructure at Mansar and Surinsar". The Prime Minister had, according to him, "assured him that the needful will be done and that Manmohan Singh "had (on his insistence) even written to the state government to have Mansar and Surinsar lakes included within the purview of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority". It was no wonder then that he "regretted that the hostile state government didn't comply even with the directions of the Prime Minister and chose to ignore the said lakes". Yesterday, the activists of Shiv Sena Hindustan (SSH) activists also joined the crusade against the Congress-NC coalition government as well as Congress-UPA Government and accused them of neglecting the Jammu lakes. They held a protest demonstration, raised slogans against both the governments and demanded that the government must abandon its discriminatory policies and undertake measures for the development of Jammu lakes so that "more and more tourists visit Jammu province". Besides urging the Jammu leadership to raise voice against the discriminatory policies, they condemned the Congress, the NC and the Union Government for ignoring Jammu lakes and spending hundreds and hundreds of crores of rupees on the Kashmir lakes. Earlier, the Jammu State Morcha (JSM) and the otherwise defunct and directionless BJP had also raised the issue and warned the authorities that it would launch a movement against them in the event of their failure to earmark the required funds for the development, beautification and preservation of the Jammu lakes.
