Tikri Sarna Tree Talk held | | | early times report Jammu, Feb 20: Tree Talkers under the guidance and support of O P Sharma travelled to Tikri and Sarna forests of Reasi Division and focused on winter wild fruit berries and rare fodder and edible woody plants linking them to Ayurvedic formulations , religious rituals and wild vegetables . At Moori in Tikri ,tree talkers took note of broken bones tree and buffalo horn like flattened pods hanging like swords on its branches .Roots of the tree are one of ingredient of Chayavanprash since ages ,tree is sporadic in forests as it grows only in those soils where it finds required fungal associations to survive and thrive in nature . Among rare trees discussed during whirlwind tour of Sarna village , Sannan ,Sandan or Tinisha tree , Ougienia oojenensis attracted attention of the tree lovers when they entered Sarna village . Large sized Sandan trees seen near Mansar Devta beside a pond reflected people's faith as they are not lopped for fodder or timber but are a source of reverence among the locals. One tree damaged during fire is still half green and attracts many devotees. At the site there is also a sacred Ber tree having rags of faith over its twigs. Here presence of three species of camel foot trees was a treat to the tree lovers , Katryiaad , Karaal and Khatti Karaal botanically identified as Bauhinia variegate , Bauhinia purpurea and Bauhinia pumila were seen protected by villagers along their farmbunds . Flower buds of Katriyad , tender leaves of Karaal and Khatti Karaal are eaten by the locals .In addition two fodder species of Grewia , Grewia optiva locally called Dhamman and Grewia Sapida locally called Pharoh were noticed as important agro-forestry trees of great economic value . Monkey face trees , Mallotus phillippensis locally named Kamilla with separate male and female trees were seen laden with blood red fruits having tropic link to endangered Rufous Turtle Dove called Kalmoonha in Dogri . Among wild fruits, Malkangini, Rajain, Sunberry, Amaltaas, Ratti, Shivlingi, Currypatta, Ber, Karounda were also discussed for their healing and neutraceutical qualities .
