2/20/2012 11:57:39 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 20: Jammu and Kashmir College Contractors Lecturers Association (JKCCLA) has flayed the Higher Education department for not enhancing the salary of the contractual lectures working in different colleges of the state.
Association held a meeting under the presidentship of Dr Nayeam Ahmad Malik and alleged that there is clear discrimination with the lecturers, teaching assistants working on academic arrangement.
He said that most of the institutions of higher learning are run by the contractual teachers, but they are being ignored by the government.
"We are providing a big relief to department of Higher Education by working hard to run the show for a very meager salary. Steps should be taken to immediately increase the salary of the contractual lectures who have given number of years to the department", he said.
Malik claimed that a contractual college teacher has to be contented with far less than that monthly salary of a contractual medical assistant. "When the nature of job of a contractual lecturer is similar to that of a permanent one, there should be no difference when it comes to the wages".
He also cited the recent directions of the High Court which said that teachers on academic arrangement in colleges be paid basic salary.
He further said that the association would be forced to take legal and other course if the department do not revise the salary and come forward with the policy of regularization.
Association has warned to launch statewide agitation if their demands are not met at the earliest.
"At several occasions we have been assured by the successive government that our issues will be solved, but they have only remain just hollow promises", he claimed.
Those who attended the meeting included Suresh Sharma, Supreme Singh, Arun Sharma, K.K.Verma, Rashpal Singh, Jyoti Sadotra, Anit Kotwal, Anil Sharma and Suresh Sadotra.
