85% target of polio drops achieved at Kupwara

KUPWARA, Feb 20: The Department of Health & Family Welfare is all geared up to administer Polio drops in district Kupwara. The District Development Commissioner Kupwara, Mohammad Shafi Rather inaugurated Pulse Polio Immunization Progr amme in presence of Chief Medical Officer Kupwara, Dr. G. N. Khan and Block Medical Officer Kupwara, Dr. Masarat Iqbal Wani at Community Health Centre (CHC) Kupwara yesterday by administrating oral polio drops to children. Speaking on the occasion, District Development Commissioner Kupwara Mohammad Shafi Rather said that the government is conducting Pulse Polio Immunization Progr amme twice in a year in order to make the district free of polio. He said that district Kupwara having target of 1,34,497 eligible children (0-5 years) and the achievement is about 85 percent (on Day 1) and was done by 2925 vaccinators and 169 supervisors along with vaccines and other logistics. "This prog ramme is our Nation's contribution to the global effort of eradicating polio disease from the world," stated Chief Medical Officer Kupwara, Dr. G. N. Khan. Due to the active participation of all Health employees of district Kupwara, Anganwari workers of ICDS Department, ASHAs, NGOs has no case of Polio since 1997, which is indeed an achievement to be proud of, however, we cannot afford to remain complacent till every corner of the country, in the world, is declared free of polio said by Block Medical Officer Kupwara, Dr Masarat Iqbal Wani. Meanwhile, acknowledging everyone for the cooperation, Department of Health & Family Welfare is highly thankful to all sections of the people, agencies (government and non-government, including the security forces and police), organizations and especially community leaders and parents of children below 5 years who came forward and ensured that all eligible children received the "Two Drops of Life".
