Severe blow to NC Seven ward presidents of NC from Mattan join PDP | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Feb 20: Ruling National Conference (NC) today received a severe setback when seven of its ward presidents from Mattan area, under the leadership of Mushtaq Ahmed Mir, quit NC and joined Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the presence of former Minister and MLA Bijbehara Abdul Rehman Veeri. Besides Mustaq Ahmed Mir, prominent among others NC leaders who joined PDP included Javed Ahmed Shah, Mohammed Yosuf Lone, Bashir Ahmed Malik, Dholi Singh, Shouqat Ahmed Mir, Mohammad Afroz Bhat and Manzoor Ahmed Parray. While welcoming new entrants in the party, Abdul Rehman Veeri termed the National Conference as rotten tree which would be perished very soon from the political scenario of Jammu and Kashmir. "Our party is party of future, which with the support of all section of the society, has emerged as biggest political force in the State", he said. Veeri further said that PDP in a short span of time has challenged the hegemony National Conference and the party has emerged as strong alternative in the State. "There was a need of strong regional party to provide an alternative to the National Conference which has failed to fulfill wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir", he said and asserted that PDP has filled that political vacuum with the overwhelming support of the people. "Our aim is not to attain the power by deceiving the people", he said and reiterated that one and only agenda of PDP is to establish lasting peace and to restore dignity and honour of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He policies and programmes of PDP were formulated to fulfill aspirations of all sections of the society. Speaking on the occasion Mushtaq Ahmed Mir said that he has decided to join PDP all due to the policies and programmes of the party. He expressed faith in the leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti. |
