| Nithari killings: Koli leads CBI team to murder weapon | | | NEW DELHI, JAN 19Busy piecing together evidence in the Nithari serial killings, the CBI today took main accused Surendra Koli to the D-5 house of co-accused Moninder Singh Pandher, where he handed over to sleuths an axe he allegedly used to chop up children and women after strangling them.
Koli handed over the axe, concealed in bushes outside the house, to a team led by CBI Joint Director Arun Kumar, official sources said.
The axe, according to the sources, had dried bloodstains on it and was sent for a forensic examination.
Koli had informed CBI officials about the axe during his questioning last night. He allegedly said he chopped up the children and women with it after strangulating them, the sources said.
He also indulged in necrophilia, allegedly abusing the victims sexually after killing them, they said.
With greater stress being laid on the identification of people whose skeletal remains and viscera were found by the CBI and Uttar Pradesh Police, the agency has roped in noted DNA expert Lalji Singh as a consultant for its probe.
Singh is the expert whose opinion in the Priyadarshani Mattoo case was rejected by Additional Sessions Judge G P Thareja but upheld by a division bench of Delhi High Court.
CBI officials said the country was facing an acute shortage of DNA experts and Singh's appointment as a consultant would expedite its probe.
CBI sources said Koli, who still expressed a desire to kill again, had completely broken down, while Pandher had also started "singing" -- or speaking about his alleged role in the crimes.
Both accused are in CBI's custody till January 25.
The details of Pandher's mobile are being examined. There were the mobile numbers of call girls, and other numbers showed his proximity with top businessmen and cops, the sources said.
However, nothing more could be learnt from the mobile and his service provider had been asked to furnish call details for the period starting from 2006, they said.
As the CBI's probe continued, a number of people thronged the camp office set by the agency at Nithari to to ask about their missing offspring.
The CBI has begun collecting DNA samples of parents which will be matched with the skeletal remains and viscera found by investigators.
Meanwhile, the separation of body parts, skeletal remains and other items to identify the victims was continuing at the AIIMS, where staff have been handed over 15 skulls found by Uttar Pradesh Police.
