Rajouri Volleball Championship gets underway

RAJOURI, Feb 20: In a bid to encourage sports and to spread goodwill amongst the youth towards the Army in particular and nation as a whole, the Rajouri Volleyball Championship under Operation Sadbhavna project got underway at Government Degree College, here today.
The championship is being organised by the Ace of Spades Artillery Brigade. Eight teams are participating in the tournament which included Govt Degree College team, Baba Gulham Shah Badshah University team, Rajouri Club, Thanamandi club, Hamirpur Fighters, Saaj club, Palma club and Dharal club. Though under "OP SADBHAVNA", Army has been doing projects to include infrastructure development projects, conducting educational tours, sponsoring students education and organising medical camps, a Volleyball Championship is yet another endeavour by the Ace of Spades Artillery Brigade to organize a sports event for the youth of Rajouri district.
The tournament is conducted by Shatrunash Regiment of Ace of Spades Artillery Brigade. The matches will be played on the 'Knock Out' basis amongst the participating eight teams. The final will be played on 22 Feb 12 at 1100 hrs at Govt Degree college Rajouri.
Meanwhile, Inter District Volleyball Tournament is being organised by 13 Rashtriya Rifles (KUMAON) at Army Goodwill School, Hajan, in which 14 teams are participating from 7 districts including Anantnag, Badgam, Shupian, Phalgam, Kulgam, Bandipora, and Ganderbal) of Victor Force. Youth from around 50 villages participated in the overall tournament, which started from 07 Feb 12 onwards. In this tournament 42 matches were played. Top four teams qualified for semi-final matches. The tournament was aimed at developing a competitive spirit amongst the local youths and also to provide them a platform to showcase their talent. The matches were witnessed with keen interest by one and all and generated bonhomie amongst the villagers and troops stationed nearby. The event drew tremendous participation and enthusiasm from the locals.
