JAMMU, Feb 20: Challenger Cricket Club, Jammu scripted a 4-wicket win over Ishar Cricket Club to move into the next round along with four other clubs today in the ongoing Jammu Premier League T20 Tawi Cup, being organized jointly by Army and the Department of Youth Services and Sports under Operation Sadhbhavna at various venues, here.
The tournament in which 34 teams drawn from district Jammu is being held under the overall supervision of Tirath Ram, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu.
Meanwhile, S Jaipal Singh, Director Youth Services and Sports along with Deputy Director SS Bali and Tirath Ram visited all three venues including MA Stadium, MHAC Nagbani and Sainik Public School, Sainik Colony and interacted with the players of various teams.
Earlier, at MHAC ground Nagbani, Challenger Cricket Club drubbed Ishar Cricket Club by four wickets to sail into the next round.
Batting first, Ishar Club scored a decent total of 178 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Sourab Gupta and Roshi slammed splendid half-centuries, scoring 58 and 50 runs respectively. For Challenger Club, Raman was most successful bowler, taking 2 wickets in his three overs.
Challenger Club, in reply chased the target easily in 17.2 overs by losing 6 wickets, thus won the match by 4 wickets. Ravat (46) and Gurmeet (44) were the main contributors. Sourab Chopra was the most successful bowler from Ishar Cricket Club, who took 3 wickets in his 4 overs by conceding 19 runs.
In another match at Nagbani, Shiva Ji XI got walkover against Jajjar Kotli XI to move into next round.
At MA Stadium, Kashyap got walkover against Shastri Cricket Club to advance in the tournament, while in another match at this venue, Kathar Cricket Club defeated Jindrah Cricket Club by a big margin of 76 runs.
After put into bat, Kathar Club scored 145 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Deepak Sharma, Neeraj Singh and Deepak Badyal contributed 26, 21 and 16 runs to the total respectively. Abhishek took 2 wickets for Jindrah Club. In reply, Jindrah Club bundled out for a paltry total of 69 runs in 16.4 overs, thus lost the match by 76 runs. Harshvardhan and Varun Jamwal scored 15 runs each. Deepak Sharma was pick of the bowlers for Kathar Club, who scalped 4 important wickets in his 3 overs by giving away just 12 runs.
Meanwhile, at Sainik Public School ground, Sainik Colony, Diamond Cricket Club trounced Trikuta Cricket Club by four wickets to advance in the tournament.
Batting first, Trikuta Club scored 126 for all in the stipulated overs, with Sandeep (22) and Manjeet (19) being the main contributors. Mahadeep was the wrecker-in-chief for Diamond Club, scalping 4 wickets by conceding just 16 runs in his quota of 4 overs, while Gurdev took 2 wickets in his four overs by giving away 19 runs.
Diamond Club chased the target by losing 6 wickets to win the match by 4 wickets. Narinder (45) and Mahadeep (25) were the main scorers.
In another match at this venue, Border Cricket Club drubbed International Cricket Club by 34 runs.
Batting first, Border Club scored 107 for the loss of 7 wickets in 15 overs. Abhay was the top scorer with 38 runs. Satinder and Vikram claimed 2 wickets each for International Club.
Chasing the target, International Club managed to score 73 for 5 in the allotted overs and lost the match by 34 runs. Arun and Rajiv contributed 19 and 17 runs to the total respectively. Vinay took 2 wickets for Border Club by conceding 9 runs in his 3 overs.
The matches were officiated by the panel of umpires and scorers including Rajesh Dhar, BK Tickoo, Sadiq Hussain Malik, Suresh Singh, Jagtar Singh, Satpal Singh, Mukesh Sharma, Madan Mohan, Satika Sharma and Swati Wadhera.
Prominent among others present at different venues were Mulkh Raj Sharma, Ram Kumar Sharma, Sher Singh, Darbara Singh, Babu Ram, Harvinder Singh, Dharshan Singh, Jasbir Singh, Rashpal Singh, Vijay Kumar, Hardutt Sharma, Pavitar Singh, Rattan Lal and Gurdeep Singh.
