J&K loses to Delhi by 125 runs in Vijay Hazare trophy | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 20: Jammu and Kashmir suffered a crushing defeat against formidable Delhi in its opening match of the Vijay Hazare One-Day tournament at Ferozeshah Kotla ground in Delhi today. Earlier, put into bat by Jammu and Kashmir skipper Hardeep Singh, Delhi scored 245 runs in 49.4 overs by losing all their wickets. Though, speedster Samiullah Beigh gave J&K an early breakthrough in shape of opener Shikhar Dhawan in his second over at his individual score of 3 runs and the teams total of 9 runs, yet decent partnership between opener Unmukth Chand (46) and Mohit Sharma (36) and a superb knock of 41 runs by dependable Mithun Manhas helped Delhi to reach a good total of 245 runs. Puneet Bisht, Ashish Nehra and Pradeep Sangwan also contributed 28, 22 and 21 runs to the total respectively. For J&K, Samiullah Beigh, though being expensive, yet took 3 wickets in his 7 overs by conceding 52 runs, while right-arm slow bowler Bandeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers, who claimed 2 wickets by giving away just 30 runs in 10 overs. Left-arm spinner Raman Dutta also took 2 wickets by conceding 32 runs in his 10 overs, while wrist spinner Manik Gupta claimed one wicket in his 9 overs, giving away 43 runs. Medium pacer Ram Dayal claimed the wicket of dangerous looking Ashish Nehra in the last over of the game, however he remained expensive in his 2.4 overs, conceding 31 runs. Debutant Sahil Sharma just bowled one over for 17 runs. Parvez Rasool bowled 10 overs for 40 runs without taking a wicket. J&K, in reply was bundled out for a paltry total of 120 runs in 41.1 overs and lost the match by 125 runs. Hardeep Singh was the top scorer with 40 runs, while apart from Shubam Khajuria (18), Ram Dayal (17) and Sammiullah (14), no other batsman could cross the double figure mark. Adil Reshi, Bandeep Singh, Ian Dev Singh, Parvez Rasool, Manik Gupta and Raman Dutta fell at 5, 0, 6, 0, 3 and zero runs respectively. For Delhi, medium pacer Parvinder Awana and military medium Rajat Bhatia scalped 3 wickets each, while left-arm speedsters Pradeep Sangwan and Ashish Nehra claimed 2 and one wicket respectively. Mohit Sharma and Varun Sood made debut for Delhi, while Shubam Khajuria, Sahil Sharma and Bandeep Singh did it for J&K. The match was officiated by KN Anant-hapadmanabhan and Amish Sahiba as umpires, while Amit Sharma acted as match referee |
