Jora inaugurates 2 Day Tagore literary festival

JAMMU, Feb 21 : Two day Tagore literary festival began at K.L. Saigal Hall here on Tuesday.
Inaugurated by minister for tourism and culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora the festival is part of a series of such events, which have been launched by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in an endeavour to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate, Rabinder Nath Tagore.`
Expressing his views on the occasion, the minister announced that given the statue of Tagore the Academy would bring out three special numbers of its literary journal 'Sheeraza' in English, Urdu and Hindi languages.
Appreciating the contributions of Tagore to world literature, Jora said that the persona of the late poet-writer was huge and his influence on world literature is awesome.
In his keynote address, noted litterateur, Mohammed Yousuf Taing dwelt on several aspects of Tagore's literary life and said that he was a true reflection of Indian nationhood.
In his comparatively roseate address Taing praised the Nobel laureate to the hilt and said that the Indian nation owes a lot to Tagore and his literary works.
Appreciating Academy's endeavour of holding the event Taing said that such events should happen on routine basis so that younger generation of the state is made abreast of the persona of personalities like Tagore.
Earlier in his welcome address secretary Academy, Atal Dulloo said that he was grateful to the government of India for providing money to the Academy for the purpose of celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Tagore.
During the first day of the two day literary event several literary experts read papers on different facets of Tagore's life. Those who read their papers in the first session of the event included Ghulam Nabi Khayal, Ghulam Nabi Aatish, Gian Singh, Nawang Tsering, and Raj Kumar. The paper reading session was presided over by ND Jamwal and KD Maini.
Later while presenting vote of thanks chief editor, Gojri, Javaid Rahi thanked the distinguished gathering for gracing the occasion and said that during the upcoming sessions of the two day event literary experts from diverse backgrounds would present their views on various shades of Tagore's life.
