2/21/2012 11:14:33 PM
early times report
JAMMU, Feb 21: The BJP will take head on the coalition government for increasing
discrimination with Jammu region. The Party which took serious notice of what it called yet another act of discrimination and injustice to which the region was subjected by the coalition government when it increased 12 seats of urban municipal bodies out of 16 in Kashmir Valley after making delimitation and four Municipal Corporation seats for Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) while not a single seat was increased for JMC, said it will launch a movement against the government decision.
Criticizing the coalition government decision in this regard BJP has warned agitation
in protest against it which it termed total discriminatory. Criticizing the rationale of increasing the seats for SMC and urban local bodies in Kashmir BJP state president
Shamsher Singh Manhas at a press conference said coalition's decision has no justification as Jammu has more area and more terrain.
He said moreover the population of Jammu city has also increased tremendously after the lakhs of people displaced from Valley and other border areas of Jammu region have also settled in the Winter Capital for last over 20 years.
Manhas who was flanked by Party chief spokesperson and National Executive Member, Dr Jitendra Singh, general secretary Sat Sharma (CA) and district president
Rajesh Gupta held the Jammu based Congress ministers responsible for the same and said the stoic silence maintained by them every time has let the people of Jammu down always.
He said where it is the matter of selections in government services, admission in professional colleges or delimitation of constituencies the Jammu has been given a raw deal but this can't be tolerated any more now.
He said during the elections the Congress had promised that they will protect the rights of the people of the Jammu but on all such occasions when it comes turn of Jammu's rights and share but they are maintaining a stoic silence or stamp the decision of its coalition partner ignoring the sentiments and feelings of the masses of this region where people have much more problems in comparison to people of Valley.
He said SMC will have now 75 wards in comparison to 71 of JMC and this all was done with a motive to ensure the hegemony of Kashmir over Jammu and divert more funds to Valley easily. He accused the Jammu based Congress ministers of compromising the interests of the people of the region. The NC may have compulsions as Kashmir is its core constituency but there were no such compulsions to Congress.
He announced that the Party will launch a campaign throughout the region and expose
Congress before masses for its failure in protecting the interests of the people of Jammu region.
