Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 21: In a development that may have far reaching consequences on Congress and coalition government, the State Accountability Commission (SAC) initiated sou-moto action in Peerzada copying scam. The SAC also sought enquiry report from the Home Department.
Peerzada who was the Education Minister in Omar Abdullah cabinet was in news recently for helping his foster son qualify the matriculation examination two years ago through unfair means. Peerzada submitted his resignation to Congress chairperson, Sonia Gandhi. However, the resignation was not accepted.
The SAC bench comprising Justice YP Nargotra (Rtd) Chairperson and Justice Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain (rtd) Member today urged the former Education Minister to appear in person or through counsel. Taking cognizance of newspaper reports, the SAC observed that in the news item serious allegation of abuse of official position against Education Minister Peerzada Muhammad Syed have appeared. He is alleged to have used his official position in facilitating the use of unfair means by his foster son namely Iman Soubhan Bhat during his secondary school examination (annual) in the year 2009 in Al Ameen School Center (Center NO 228) and who even after being caught by the Vigilance Squad using unfair means was not booked and was left of on the telephonic intervention.
SAC further observed that it has been reported by the press that on the orders of Chief Minister Crime Branch Police has conducted an enquiry into the allegations and submitted the report to the Principal Secretary Home Dept confirming the allegations. As the allegations made against the Education Minister squarely fall within the J&K Accountability Commission Act 2002 and are likely to shake the confidence of public in democratic institutions, therefore, it shall be appropriate for the SAC to take cognizance into the matter in exercise of the power vested in terms of section 9 and hold enquiry in terms of section 13 of the said Act. —JNF
