PDP, NPP, BJP mulls to corner the coalition on governance deficit
Destructive opposition or decimal performance of the government

Bashir Assad
Jammu, Feb22; The opposition Peoples Democratic Party Wednesday made its intentions clear by saying that every single word of Governor's address to the joint session of assembly will be put on scanner because there was nothing in ruling coalition government's brief on the issue of governance. Panthers Party too has hinted at pushing the government on back foot. The party has made the alleged regional bias and the "most hostile discrimination" towards Jammu region and is likely to gherao the Assembly premises to demand dismissal of the NC-Congress government. "We have decided to hold protest outside the assembly on February 23, because Omar led regime is total failure on all fronts", confirmed Harshdev Singh said.
BJP on the other hand is expected to protest alleged regional discrimination. The new recruitment policy, being widely flayed by the educated unemployed youth of the state, is also expected to find prominence during the month long session and various students organizations have decided to organize protest demonstrations, giving opposition an opportunity to hit the government below the belt.
On the other hand several state government employees associations and federations too have started asserting on employees demands, So there will be a stiff opposition to the government in and outside the house as several employees organizations have chalked out a program of assembly gherao on issues like enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years, confirmation of consolidated and daily wagers. "There is restlessness among the employees as the government has been backtracking on the agreements reached upon from time to time with the representatives of state employees" said Khurshid Aalam, president Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC). Aalam said though the government has made a commitment to decide about the enhancement of the retirement age from 58 to 60 by end of March, yet the employees are apprehensive as to whether the government will honour its commitment. Aalam did not rule out assembly gherao during the session to press for their demands.
On the other hand opposition from both regions is all set to corner the government on issues like corruption and custodial death of NC worker. The session, which will start with the customary address of Governor N N Vohra to the joint sitting of the state Assembly and Council, might witness uproar by opposition members on issues like NC worker Yousuf Shah's custodial death and alleged involvement of some ministers in corruption cases.
On the other hand PDP and CPI(M) will strongly protest the executive and administrative powers conferred on the advisors to the chief minister and will ask for a debate on the constitutionality of the issue. M Y Tarigami, sources said, has started consultations with constitutional experts and legal luminaries to equip himself with constitutional support on the issue thereby leaving little room for the government to defend its order of appointing advisors. There are lots of issues - from corruption to failure of governance on all fronts - and we will raise them vociferously," a PDP spokesman said.
However, PDP legislature party met here at Former Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayed's residence late this evening to discuss the strategy to be evolved to corner the government during the budget session. Informed sources said that the legislature party has decided to go through every single word of the Governor's address to the joint session and avoid beating the bush in darkness. Instead, the party has decided to study the address fully and then hit below the belt technically. However, the Party might register its protest soon after the Governor rises to deliver the address but, sources said, the protest will be symbolic. BJP legislature party met here at Ashoke Khajuria's residence to discuss the future course of action. The party is, however, facing crises due to expulsion of seven of its legislators whose fate hangs fire as the Speaker of the assembly is yet to take a decision on their disqualification from the house. However, the party will be taking up same old issue of discrimination with Jammu region, plight of West Pakistan and PaK refugees, which has remained as a key agenda of the party. "Omar government has failed on all the fronts. Most of the Ministers are involved in corruption, while the government claims of fighting the menace. Government needs to be answerable to the masses", said BJP Legislative party leader, Jugal Kishore.
