Bhalla asks authorities to evict encroachments along embankments | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 22: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla has asked the Revenue authorities to take measures to evict the encroachment along the Landoi Choi nallah at Babliana village to facilitate the completion of modernization works. The Government has earmarked Rs. 2 crore for the modernisation of the seasonal nallah by way of alignment of embankments on either side. The work site at Babliana village includes construction of 15.3 meter long motorable box type culvert and building of protection wall. The Minister who visited the work site today asked the revenue authorities to remove all encroachments so that the work was completed well before the onset of rainy season. Bhalla asked the R&B engineers to put their sincere efforts to ensure timely completion of the project adding that inhabitants of Babliana and Gangyal villages have faced lot of hardships during monsoon last year due to choking of the nallah. He said with the blockade of flow, the nallah water overflowed and entered into the houses of inhabitants causing huge loss of public and private property. The Minister also asked the executing agency to immediately remove the garbage from the choked portion of the nallah holes so that the people do not face any inconvenience due to stagnation of foul nallah water in the locality Bhalla said meeting the people's aspirations and developmental needs is top agenda of the Government. He assured the local people that all their genuine demands and development needs would be fulfilled in a phased manner. Later, the Minister attended the Annual Day Function of Dewan Devi Higher Secondary School, Rajpura Mangotrian as Chief Guest. Chairman of the school, Subash Suri, Principal, Smt. Saloni Anand, Vice-Principal Ashwani Suri, Ex-Corporator, Manmohan Singh, Chander Mohan Gupta besides prominent personalities, students, parents, teaching and non-teaching staff members were present on the occasion and appreciated the cultural programmes presented by the students of different classes. Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla greeted the management of the school for arranging such a grand function in the premises to mark annual day celebration. He said such type of functions provide platform to students for exhibiting their hidden talent through cultural items adding that co-curricular activities also make the students physically and mentally fit. The Minister asked the students to work hard for coming examinations and bring laurels to their institutions. He asked the teachers to provide quality education to the students to facilitate their better grooming, adding that teachers as the 'Gurus' are the main architect of the children who shape their personality through their experience and talent. Bhalla also distributed mementos among the meritorious students who brought laurels in co-curricular activities and academics in 2010-11 session. |
