| US, Pakistan adopting double standards | | EDITORIAL | |
In a befitting response to Pak pretensions of its keenness to continue the peace process with India and asking India that the serial blasts of Mumbai on July 11 should not derail the negotiations going on between the two countries, India has called a spade a spade by asking Pakistan to give positive proof of its commitment to demolish the terrorist infrastructure in their country. In the first direct contact between the officials of the two countries at Dhaka, for preparation of SAARAC summit meet, Indian Secretary for external affairs, Shayam Saran has told his Pakistani counterpart that before the peace process and any official level meeting between the representatives of the two countries is resumed, it is imperative that Pakistan fulfills its commitment given to India that it will not allow its territory to be used for exporting terrorism to India. India has already told Pakistan and even USA that they have the positive proof of Pak involvement in the terrorist strikes in our country. The interrogations of various captured terrorists has revealed the continuous existence of terrorist training camps and launching pads in the territory under the control of Pakistan, where ISI has been providing the terrorist outfits all the assistance, supplying them arms and providing logistic support. India has earlier told USA also that it has more positive and better proof of the Mumbai blasts having Pakistani links than the US had proof of the involvement of Al Qaida in the 9/11 attacks on the twin towers in New York and Pantagon in Washington. If USA could exercise the option of demolishing Al Qaida infrastructure by waging an open war on Al Qaida and Taliban in Afghanistan, why India can't exercise this option for its own safeguard against the onslaughts on it by the armed terrorists from Pakistan. Both Pakistan and USA are adopting double standards, in their so called war on international terrorism. While Pakistan has been fully cooperating with USA in taking pre-emptive and punitive actions against the suspected Al Qaida and Taliban jehadis camping within Pak territory on its borders with Afghanistan, it has been serving warning on India against taking such a step to demolish the terrorist training camps and launching pads in Pak territory. The USA on the other hand which itself exercises the hard option of air dropping its forces several thousands of miles away in Afghanistan as a retaliatory action against Al Qaida jehadis and in a bid to capture the Al Qaida supreme Osama Bin Laden, while it has been advising restrain in India in its reaction to the repeated terrorist strikes in the country, with Pakistani links. The US on its part even exercises the option to destroy the alleged existence of weapons of mass destruction with Sadham Hussain's government in Iraq, by openly waging a war on that country and affecting change of regime in that country, although no such weapons of mass destruction are ultimately found to be in the possession of the forces under Sadham Hussain. But when there is even any hint of India thinking to take any pre-emptive action against the terrorists bleeding our country, while operating from Pak territory, USA not only advices us to desist from such a course but gives ample hint of it providing all the assistance and help to Pakistan against any such action by India. It is thus clear that both USA and Pakistan who claim to be allies in the war on terrorism, are adopting double standards.
