| Controversy over 'Dr' title to Asstt Dir ASC JU | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 22: Ranjit Kalra, Assistant Director, Academic Staff College (ASC), University of Jammu, who became first member from the university faculty to be elected as a member to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently landed in troubled waters as he hits new controversy as belling allegedly using a false title Dr- the 'Doctorate Ph.D.
It's stated that a philosophical doctorate or a PhD for short is the highest level of certification and people generally prefix the title to get prestige, honor, recognition and the sense of fulfillment.
Sources within Jammu University revealed that Ranjeet Kalra, who happens to be the son of retired DGP, and close to Abdullah family, has been befooling the society by using the prefix 'Dr'.
"The said person was so eager to get the title infront of his name though he is pursuing his PhD degree course in Political Science under the guidance of professor Kulwant Kour but the lure of become a Doctorate has made him using the title much before the same is entrusted to him, sources said.
They further added that usually a person making false and misleading statements would face tune and the institution or persons who were 'harmed' by the deceit could sue for damages. "As for criminal prosecution, that depends on the laws concerning fraud as soon as it is discovered, one looses any and all credibility," senior professor of Jammu University said but on authorized anonymity.
The controversy regarding using the title of Dr erupted following some section of print media including both local and national projected Ranjeet Kalra as Dr Ranjeet Kalra.- "The two-day Advanced Management programme for Academic Administrators and College Principals organised by the Academic Staff College and the Directorate of College development Council, JU concluded here today. Dr SS Billawaria, IAS, Former Chief Secretary J&K Government was the Chief Guest where Dr Ranjeet Kalra also spoke on the occasion", reported by a local newspaper.
Another local daily reported the same event saying: Professor Anima Langer, Dean Life Sciences was the chief guest at the valedictory function while Dr Ranjeet Kalra, Assistant Director, Academic Staff College presented a formal vote of thanks on this occasion.
Later on being verified, it was revealed that the press releases issued by University has quoted Ranjeet Kalra as Dr Ranjeet Kalra. "Using title before completion of the course is an offence", a prominent lawyer said. The use of Dr title by Ranjeet Kalra has not only fumigated to the PhD awardees but also the common people, who demand clarification from JU authority. |
