Afzal Guru resolution may not be allowed in the House | | | Jammu: The private member resolution for clemency to terrorist Afzal Guru convicted in the Parliament attack by the Supreme Court is likely to be not accepted by the the Speaker. Not only that even another resolution for immediate hanging of Guru is not likely to be allowed. According to sources, the Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone, has decided that these to resolutions wouldn't be accepted as it would result in disturbance and acrimonious debate in the House. The resolution for clemency was moved by independent MLA Engineer Abdul Rashid in on the last day of the previous Session held in Srinagar It couldn't be debated as Cong disrupted the proceedings demanding immediate un-seating of the seven BJP MLAs expelled from the Party. Engineer Rashid has decided to move the resolution this time also and both NC and PDP has not raised any objection to it. The second resolution for hanging has been moved by BJP MLA Ashok Khajuria. According to the sources, the Speaker has studied and weighed both the resolution and is of the view that since any resolution is neither mandatory nor binding on the government as a result it can be avoided. The speaker has already hinted at it in his earlier statement that he would not allow thorny, sensitive or contentious issues to be allowed in the House which have the potential of disrupting the proceedings. Even though resolution was moved by Engineer Rashid in last session but it was fallout of the tweet by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The CM had last September tweeted: "if the J&K assembly had passed a resolution against the death sentence given to Guru as was done by the Tamil Nadu assembly for the killers of Rajiv Gandhi, the reaction would not have been as muted as it is now." His tweet had evoked sharp reaction from the BJP.
