Afzal Guru's issue may dominate J-K assembly's Budget session | | | Early Times Report jammu/srinagar, Feb 22: The Afzal Guru death sentence issue is likely to come up during budget session as well with independent MLA from Langate Engineer Rashid and BJP MLAs having made it known that they would take up the issue. While former wants debate on the issue , BJP MLAs would demand for implementation of the death sentence of Guru. The budget session of the state assembly is scheduled to commence from Thursday and BJP MLAs have already submitted a resolution demanding implementation of Guru death sentence while MLA Engineer Rashid too demanded revival of his earlier submitted resolution for commutation of death sentence of Afzal Guru to life imprisonment which could not be taken up in the assembly during autumn session of the assembly at Srinagar in August last. With the intentions having been made clear by both the groups, the session is likely to be noisy on the issue. Corruption can be another issue which is likely to dominate the assembly session in the coming days. Pandemonium ruled the summer session of assembly in Srinagar as issues like clemency for Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, disqualification of BJP MLAs for cross voting and death of ruling National Conference worker in police custody led to frequent adjournments. Chief minister Omar Abdullah himself expressed his apprehensions about the noisy session of the assembly . The rift in the coalition partners ; NC and congress over clipping of the powers of the congress ministers by the chief minister would also come up for discussion. PDP MLAs are ready to take on the Omar Abdullah government on misgovernance, corruption and NC worker Haji Yousuf's mysterious death case . The congress may also raise the issue of expulsion of seven BJP MLAs who had cross-voted in legislative council elections in favour of NC candidate in April last year. The Assembly secretariat has already received 23 Private Members' Bills. There are 61 Private Members' Bills were pending introduction in the House while three private Bills were awaiting consideration and passing. One private members' bill from the Legislative Council was also pending for consideration in addition to five government Bills pending since the last session. "One more Bill had gone to the Select Committee, which would be submitting its report during the upcoming session", . The Legislative Assembly has also received 1090 questions in two categories of starred and un-starred. After allowing 23 new bills, the Assembly secretariat has presently 89 Private Members' Bills listed for introduction, consideration and passing. Moreover the Legislative Council has received around 570 questions, 11 private members' Bill and 49 resolutions. |
