Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 21: A day ahead of the commencement of Budget session of Assembly, the entire political spectrum in the winter capital of the state remained busy with Legislative Party meetings drawing up respective strategies to be adopted during the month long session of Legislature. Amid apprehensions in power corridors of the session to be stormy , opposition parties are fully geared up to corner the NC led coalition government in both houses of the legislature, with many political issues in hand to rake them up vociferously. To counter the opposition onslaught, the alliance partners have readied a strategy, relying much upon floor coordination and unity inside the Houses.
In the meeting convened late in the evening , the alliance partners attended by almost all the legislators of both NC as well as Congress, the leadership of both the parties is learnt to have stressed the need to put up a show of unity as and when opposition would take on the coalition. Even though there some key issues which were underlined, as a matter of general strategy it was desired to have proper floor management in order to enable the government to respond and counter the opposition attack, sources said. Sources also said the legislators were asked to show unity and observe coalition dharma , and respond in tandem over issues concerning the government or just one alliance partner. This was deemed necessary to dilute the opposition aggressive posturing, which the coalition government is apprehensive of facing during the session. Sources said the ruling NC is in particular concerned and worried over its rival PDP's attack and 'aggressive' strategy which in all likelihood would be aimed at hitting out at the NC . While the party High command has desired in the Legislative Party meeting not to get 'provoked' by PDP posturing and aggressive stand on certain issues, the members have been asked instead of focusing on countering the charges, they should allow the proceedings run 'smoothly'. The NC , sources said is heavily banking upon what they have desired as 'close coordination' and support of its alliance partner Congress inside the House. In the meeting held today, sources said both the allies expressed apprehensions of opposition attacking posture mainly over the issues that have surfaced in the State Accountability Commission during the last few days.
While alliance partners are trying to gear up to face opposition, the principle opposition party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Panthers Party (NPP) and BJP are all set to take them on with full might and political prowess, sources said adding that the final stragey was drawn up well in the meeting of legislative party of PDP in the vening. Sources also said there is every likelihood of PDP trying to disrupt the session on the very first day when the Governor NN Vohra addresses joint legislature tomorrow. the coalition and the main allies NC as well as Congress on a number of issues where . Even as the opposition parties have separate agenda and ideologies on the basis of which they have formulated their strategies to be adopted during the session, in all likelihood, the MLAs of these parties would corner the government almost unequivocally on certain issues that have jolted the coalition recently. Even the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself has already indicated that the session is going to be stormy. While the Congress Legislative Party meeting was held two days back , the meeting of coalition alliance partners was held late this evening in which the allies discussed threadbare various issues and the strategy to be adopted to counter the opposition attack. Sources said both the alliance partners were unanimous on the view that a united approach was required and both NC as well as Congress must show complete coordination and harmony inside the House . Sources said the need for coordination was underlined in order to dilute the aggressive strategy by almost all the opposition parties. The coalition government is already faced with severe criticism from the opposition on burning issues like corruption, lack of good governance, NC worker Syed Yousuf Shah's death allegedly in custody , AFSPA revocation and lately the copying scam involving Minister of Public Enterprises, Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed . These are the specific issues besides a number of general issues on which coalition is readying itself to face attack from the opposition. Congress has already decided to put up a united face during the session, a strategy which the leadership feels would go a long way in keeping up the image of the party in the eyes of public. Sources also said J&K Panthers Party has already decided to hold protest in front of State Assembly tomorrow and the highpoint of their boycotting strategy would be the demand of dismissal of the Coalition Government headed by Omar Abdullah. Even the divided camp of BJP with four MLAs on one side and 7 MLAs on the others side are also set to take up issues like discrimination with Jammu region in order to corner the coalition, albeit on a mellowed tone.
