Nation will not forget martyrs sacrifices, JKP on back of their NOKs: Khoda

JAMMU, Feb 23: Jammu and Kashmir Police organized a mega Samelan of Next of Kins (NOKs) of police martyrs at Police Auditorium here today. Chaired by the Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda, more than 300 NOKs from varied districts of Jammu Province, besides a large number of senior police officers attended the day long Samelan.
Addressing the families, Khoda reiterated that the martyrs have made supreme sacrifices at the prime of their youth for the cause of integrity of the state and safety of the common people. The sacrifices of these martyrs have yielded fruits in the shape of peace and the people are witnessing a secure and fearless atmosphere in the state. He said that the NOKs are members of police parivar and the organization is committed to provide succor to the families of martyrs. The department has taken various schemes to assist the families of martyrs through Police Welfare Fund for which various steps have been taken to generate sources for the fund. The organization has been considering various welfare schemes at its own level to provide assistance to the martyr's children, he added.
The DGP disclosed that the need to organize the Samelan at the provincial levels has been felt since long and it had become necessary to interact with the families of the martyrs to know their problems and to solve them. He said that in the first phase, the Samelan has been organized here today and such interactions have been made mandatory at police station and district level after intervals. The drawing and disbursing officers of all establishments have been asked to address the problems of these families on priority and status reports of each case should be shared with higher offices periodically.
Khoda said that financial assistance is being provided to the martyr's families by police parivar, in addition to the relief provided by the government. During the year 2011, more than Rs. 2 crores have been provided to the families in the shape of relief and assistance. The department has also taken up the issue with the government to relax the time bar for benefiting more NOKs by providing compassionate appointments. Besides other measures, the organization is focusing on education of the wards of martyrs and scholarships are being provided to the school going children regularly. Free education and hostel facilities are provided to these children at Srinagar and Jammu also. The organization has this year started free coaching for the wads of martyrs, appearing in competitive examination making them able to expiate their talent, he added.
