GDC Udhampur joins prestigious club of 'elite colleges' | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, Feb 23: GDC (Boys) Udhampur has been sanctioned a grant of Rs 66 lacs by the Dept. of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India under the Star College Scheme. This college has become the First College in the State to get financial support for strengthening of Life Science and Biotechnology education and training at undergraduate level under Star College Scheme. It may mentioned here that there are hardly one or two Colleges in whole of North India that have qualified to be a part of this scheme and Govt. Degree College (Boys) Udhampur has now joined this prestigious club of 'elite colleges'. This achievement is an outcome of initiatives taken during its Golden Jubilee Year 2010-11. Six science departments of the college shall receive a non-recurring grant of Rs 30 lacs and a recurring grant of Rs. 36 lacs for three consecutive years @ Rs. 12 lacs per year. The college has received the non-recurring grant and first installment of recurring grant of Rs.12 lacs for the up gradation of various science departments viz. Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Biotechnology and Sericulture. Principal of the College Nutan K. Resutra has thanked DBT for the assistance to this otherwise neglected college. "This has become possible because of untiring efforts of the staff. This shall add further to the enviable heights gained by this institution in the near past," he said.
