JAMMU, Feb 23: Aimed at promoting linguistic diversity of the state, a state level Pahari mushaira was held at KL Saigal Hall here today. Organised by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, the mushaira was presided over by noted litterateur, Sabir Mirza while Academy's additional secretaries, Savita Bakshi and Shamim Akhter were also in the presidium. Around 57 poets from across the state took part in the day long event. Prominent ones who recited their latest poetic collections during the mushaira included Rashid Qamar, Sheikh Azad Ahmad Azad, KD Maini, Jehangir Daanish, Syed Imtiaz Naseem Hashmi, Mohammed Azeem Khan, Anwar Khan, Sheikh Zahoorud Din, Mehmood Ahmad Tahir, Mohammed Bashir Shad, Gulsharan Singh Gulshan, Mohammed Rashid Qureshi, Haider Nadeem, Sabir Mirza, Parvez Malik and Liayat Jafri among others. Giving his presidential remarks, Sabir Mirza said that by holding mushaira's in regional languages the Academy is promoting the linguistic diversity of the state. He impressed upon the Academy authorities that they should continue this tradition as it allows constructive literary debate. Earlier in her welcome address Academy's additional secretary, Savita Bakshi said that organising literary events like mushaira's is one of the main activities of the Academy and their organisation would keep on doing this. The programme proceedings were conducted by cultural officer, Rajouri, Alamdar Hussain while additional secretary, Shamim Akhter presented the vote of thanks. |
