JAMMU, Feb 23: Diamond Cricket Club scripted a narrow win over star studded Kishen Chand Cricket Club (KCCC) in the quarter-final, while Jammu Cricket Club (JCC) thrashed Shiva Ji Cricket Club by a huge margin to become the first two teams to qualify for the semifinals of the ongoing Jammu Premier League T20 Tawi Cup, being organized by Armed Forces under Operation Sadbhavna in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K State Sports Council and Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association at MA Stadium, here.
In the first quarterfinal, the unsung Diamond Club defeated the formidable team of KCCC by a narrow margin of 14 runs in a thrilling contest. Winning the toss and batting first, Diamond Club managed to score 105 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Mahadeep Singh was top scorer with 16-ball 27 runs including three boundaries, while Balvinder Singh (19), Narinder (17) and Gurmeet (12) were the other notable contributors. For KCCC, medium pacer Ashwani and left-arm spinner Pardeep Bali took 2 wickets each, while seam bowler Soumay Jain and Ashok Kumar claimed one wicket each.
KCCC, in reply lost the wickets at regular intervals and the whole side bundled out for paltry 91 runs in 19.3 overs, thus lost the match by 14 runs. Divya Pratap Singh and Sourab Gupta made 14 runs each, while Vikas and Vimarsh Kaw contributed 12 and 10 runs to the total respectively. Rest of the batsmen failed to cross the double figure mark. For Diamond Club, speedster Narinder Singh was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 important wickets by conceding just 15 runs in his 3.3 overs, while Ajit pal Singh captured 2 wickets and Gurdev, Pawandeep and Parmeet claimed one wicket each. In another quarterfinal match played today, Jammu Cricket Club drubbed Shiva Ji Club by a big margin of 68 runs. Batting first, JCC scored a decent total of 168 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Opening batsman Vivek Singh played a superb innings of 60 runs in just 49 balls with the help of 8 delectable boundaries, Sidharth Magotra hit quick-fire 30 runs including 3 crispy fours. Ranjeev Singh (17), Guru Pratap (14) Paras (10) and Manjeet (10) were the other notable contributors. For Shiva Ji Club, Rakesh and Deepak bagged 2 wickets each, while Aatish and Sachin claimed one wicket each.
Chasing a mammoth total, Shiva Ji Club collapsed at 100 runs in 17 overs to lose the match by a big margin of 68 runs. Sudesh (21), Rakesh (18) and Jitender (12) were the main contributors. Left-arm seam bowler Deepak Dogra was the wrecker-in-chief for JCC, who captured 3 wickets in his 4 overs by conceding just 10 runs, while Manjeet Singh and Paras Sharma snared 2 wickets each. The matches were officiated by Rajesh Dhar, Jagtar Singh, BK Tickoo, Piyush Mahajan, Sadiq Hussain, Pankaj Sasun, Satika Sharma, Harvinder Kour and Swati Wadhera.
In tomorrow's fixture, Rehari Cricket Club would take on Simula Cricket Club at 8:30 am, while National Cricket Club will lock-horns with Kashyap Cricket Club at 11:30 am at the same venue.
