Inter-battalion sports meet of Armed Police
IR 15th women retain kabaddi, basketball, volleyball titles

JAMMU, Feb 23: By retaining the titles in three team events of kabaddi, basketball and volleyball, the 15th battalion women look all set to hold back the overall championship trophy in the ongoing Inter-battalion Sports Meet of the J&K Armed Police at different venues, here today.
Besides winning the three titles today, the formidable 15th battalion has also sailed into the final of tug of war competition. In the final, to be played tomorrow, IR 15th shall take on IR 12th.
Earlier, in kabaddi final, IR 15th trounced Armed Police (AP) 9th battalion (24-18) by a margin of six points. In the semifinals, IR 15th beat IR 17th by a big margin of 23 points while AP 9th outplayed IR 12th by eight points.
Similarly, in basketball title clash, IR 15th downed IR 17th 20-14. Earlier, in the semifinals, IR 15th beat AP 9th 15-08 while IR 17th defeated IR 12th 14-10. In volleyball final, IR 15th beat AP 12th 2-1 (15-01, 13-15, 16-14). In the semi-finals, IR 15th got walkover IR 12th and AP 12th outplayed IR 19th 2-0 (15-10, 15-03).
Meanwhile, competition was still at preliminary stages in men's team events of basketball, kabaddi, volleyball, football and hockey.
However, in men's handball event, IR 8th and IR 19th have reached the final and shall be contesting for the title tomorrow. Earlier, in the semi-finals, IR 19th beat IR 3rd 42-37 while IR 8th trounced AP 8th 25-21. The Results: Quarterfinals: AP 14th bt IR 11th 18-11; IR 9th bt AP 8th 16-11; IR 3rd bt AP 6th 14-04; IR 6th bt IR 17th 10-09.
Bhat faces Sanjay in lawn tennis final
Meanwhile, in Gazetted Officers (men) events, RK Bhat (SP) shall take on Sanjay Parihar (DySP) in the title clash. Earlier, in the semi-finals, played today, R K Bhat beat Waheen Ali (DySP) 7-2 while Sanjay Parihar defeated Randeep Kumar (SP) 7-2.
In another GOs event of badminton, Sanjay Parihar and Fahim Ali (DySP) won their respective matches today. While Fahim defeated Kanwar Ranjit Singh (SP) 2-0 (21-19, 21-19), Sanjay Parihar registered 2-0 (21-15, 21-12) win over Atul Sharma (DySP).
