| Conference on global warming to commence today | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 23: A three - day International Conference on Global Warming: the Biggest Challenge of 21st Century will be inaugurated at GDC Udhampur tomorrow.
Abdul Gani Malik Minister for Higher Education will inaugurate this mega event.
The conference, first of its own kind in any college of the state, has been sponsored by the University Grants Commission.
The conference is expected to be attended by around 300 delegates of national and international repute who will also present papers on various sub-themes of the conference.
The inaugural session shall have V.K.Jain,Head Dept.of Botany, JNU Delhi, as key note speaker, in addition to a special note on the theme by Valentin Salcedo del Castillo, a renowned Scientist from Spain.
Highly thought provoking invited talks shall be delivered by eminent experts drawn from various institutions of the country and abroad as Miren Izaskum Aramendi Olarra, Cesar Andia both from Spain, Guna Shekhar, a senior geologist from Sri Lanka, Linda Parks from the USA, K.S Jamwal, former Deputy Director General, Geological Survey of India, Salahuddin Qureshi, Shashi Kant,. N. Seker , Paresh N Dhepe, Neelam Choudhary, J.S Malik, Chamundi Jiji, Manjul Dhiman, G.M Shah and many more.
There shall be 12 technical sessions during the three-day event.
The 2nd and 3rd day shall find parallel sessions due to immense response of paper and poster presentations. A cultural evening has also been arranged for the delegates on the 2nd day at 4.30 p.m. in which Balwant Singh Mankotia, MLA Udhampur shall be the chief guest.
The conference will conclude on 26th of February with a valedictory function in which R.N.K. Bamezai, Vice Chancellor SMVDU shall be the chief guest and certificates will be distributed to the participants. Speaking to the mediapersons in a press conference held in the college, the Principal of the college Nutan K. Resutra has expressed gratitude to all those, especially members of civil society, who are directly or indirectly contributing for this conference.
"The endeavour to hold an international event of this magnitude shall certainly be a desirable exposure to our students who have shown noted enthusiasm to be a part of it", he added.
All the arrangements for this mega event of the college have been completed. |
