GCW parade celebrates Annual Day | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 23: Govt. College for Women Parade celebrated the Annual Day Cum Prize Distribution Function in the college campus with great zeal and fervor, today. Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Employment, Abdul Gani Malik, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Manohar Lal Sharma, Minister of State for Higher Education and Co-operatives presided over the function. Tanveer Jehan , Commissioner/Secretary Higher Education Department was the Guest of Honor. Hemant Kumar Sharma, special secretary to Higher Education and Muqbil Chisti, Director Colleges Higher Education were also present among the dignitaries. Principals of various colleges, former principals, university officials, other distinguished guests, faculty members and the students were present on the occasion. The lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries marked the beginning of the programme. Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the college welcomed the guests and presented the college Annual Report (2011-2012) wherein she highlighted the achievements of the college in different fields. She also presented comprehensive document "Vision 2020" outlining the possible academic trajectories that the college could take in the years ahead. Speaking about the re-accreditation of the institution by NAAC with Grade 'A', she described this achievement as culmination of great vision of our Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik, timely sagacious guidance of our Commissioner/Secretary Madam Jehan , pragmatic approach of Director Muqbil Chisti, sincere advice of our alumni and efforts of all the stake holders of the college, especially staff and students. The Minister, in his address, congratulated the principal, staff and the students of the college for achieving "Grade- A" by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore. He lauded the efforts of teachers in shaping the young minds. He also exhorted the teachers and the students to work hard with dedication for future growth of the college, making it a centre for excellence. Manohar Lal Sharma, MOS for Higher Education and Co-operatives also spoke on the occasion. He said that the college has grown in stature and strength and has become one of the finest colleges dedicated to the pursuits of knowledge and excellence. In her address, Commissioner/Secretary Higher Education Tanveer stressed on academic excellence and quality improvement, by giving her illuminating ideas and enlightening thoughts. On the occasion, IQAC Newsletter "Q-Blitz" language Newsletter 'Bhasha Samachar', Science Newsletter 'Genesis', P.G. Home Science Newsletter 'Outreach' and Campus Chronicle - 2012 were also released. The formal programme was followed by a colorful cultural bonanza including Saraswati Vandana, Dogri Fusion, Creative Dance and a Pahari Dance, which were highly appreciated and lauded by the audience and the Chief Guests as well. Later, the guests awarded trophies, mementos and certificates to the students for their excellence and participation in academics, sports and other important activities of the college. The function ended with a vote of thanks by Veena Pandita. The programme was compered by Radhika Mahajan, Shivani Anand, Apoorva Jamwal and Akshima, the students of the college. |
