Punjab drubs J&K in Vijay Hazare trophy | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 24: After receiving a heavy thrashing in the match against Delhi on the other day, Punjab today showed an improved performance against low profile Jammu and Kashmir and defeated them by runs in the ongoing Vijay Hazare trophy match at Palam-A Ground, Model Sports Complex in Delhi today. It was third consecutive defeat for J&K as they have lost to Delhi and Services already in the tournament. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Punjab rode on a superb innings of 76 runs by C Madan and equally valuable knock of 54 runs by Amitoze Singh scored a good total of 224 runs in 49.4 overs by losing all their wickets. Taruvar Kohli and Sidharth Kaul also contributed 31 and 16 runs to the total respectively. Speedster Ram Dayal 3/46 and left-arm spinner Raman Dutta 3/47 were the most successful bowlers for J&K, while leggie Manik Gupta claimed one wicket and the rest of the batsmen were run out. In reply, J&K managed to score 205 runs by losing 9 wickets in 50 overs, thus lost the match by 19 runs. Parvez Rasool, who came into bat at number nine, remained unbeaten at his individual score of 51 runs in 48 balls including 4 fours and 2 massive sixes, while Ian Dev Singh contributed well made 40 runs with the help of four boundaries and one six. Arshid Bhat (35), Hardeep Singh (23), Ram Dayal (15) and Raman Dutta (11) were the other contributors. For Punjab, Rajwinder Singh scalped 3 wickets, while Bipul Sharma claimed 2 wickets. Manpreet Goni, Taruvar Kohli and Sidharth Kaul claimed one wicket apiece. |
