J&K making serious efforts to control female foeticide: Sham | Council-2012 | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 24: Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma today said that government is making all efforts to control female foeticide in the state. Various steps are being taken for strict enforcement of the J&K Preconception and Prenatal Sex Selection and Determination (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 2002 (PC&PNDT), he added. He was replying to question by NC MLC Mohammed Yousuf Taing in Legislative council. He said that the regulatory bodies like State Supervisory Board, Divisional Advisory Committee under the Preconception and Prenatal sex Determination Act, have been reconstituted and state nodal officer has also been nominated for PC&PNDT, he added. Minister informed that government has not conducted gender survey of new born babies in the state, and as per 2011 census report (Provisional), the sex ratio of the total population of the state has declined from 892 in 2001 to 883 in 2011 whereas the child sex ratio has declined from 941 to 859 over this period. Minister said that awareness generation is being focused upon through print and electronic media. Religious leaders have also been involved in motivating people to curb this menace. He said regular inspections of the ultrasound clinics are being carried out. Similarly, 50,000 cash ward has been announced for any person who gives information about the occurrence of sex determination by any of the Ultrasound Clinic and Centre. Replying to an another question of Mohammad Amin Bhat, Minister said that Central Heating System in Emergency Hospital Qazigund has been installed and J&K PCC has been asked to hand over the same to Mechanical Engineering Department for making it fully functional. He said Blood storage facility is also available in the hospital and the registration of blood bank is under process. In reply to another question of Naresh Kumar Gupta, the Health Minister said that under NRHM, funds are being provided for infrastructure development to supplement the ongoing health projects for speedy execution. Under NRHM, 276 ongoing health works including 20 district hospitals, 46 Community health Centres, 49 Primary Health Centres and 161 Sub Centre, he added. He said an amount of Rs. 592.61 crore has been released under NRHM since its launch and State Government has also released Rs. 78.12 crore as State share upto ending January 2012, thus aggregating to Rs. 679.73 crore, against which Rs. 573.02 crore (84%) stand utilized on different activities ending January 2012. |
