Speaker directs govt to provide immediate relief to snow, avalanche victims

JAMMU, Feb 24 : Reacting to a sensitive issue raised by Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi and G.M.Saroori in the LA regarding the loss of life and property due to heavy snowfall and avalanches in Sonamarg, Gurez and erstwhile Doda district, the Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone today directed the Government to take immediate measures to provide relief to the next of kin those killed and compensation to the other affected people. He directed for undertaking a detailed survey of the areas to establish the quantum of loss. The entire House showed solidarity towards the bereaved families and Members observed 2-minute silence to pay respect to the departed souls. The Speaker asked the Government to restore the essential services in the areas and mitigate the problems of the people.
M.Y.Tarigami drew the attention of the House toward using force on the PHE daily wagers who were peacefully agitating for the regularization at Srinagar yesterday. He said the Government should address their demands amicably and in the democratic process they have every right to protest and press their demands. Hakim Mohammad Yasin also raised the issue of daily wagers of different departments who are agitating for their regularization. He said Government should resolve their problems and suggested to formulate an effective recruitment policy for unemployed youth in the State.Er. Abdul Rashid raised the issue of medical representatives who are agitating against the new Drug Policy of the Government. He requested that the Government should address the view point of the medical representatives to safeguard their interests. Harshdev Singh stressed for formulation of a uniform policy for regularization of daily rated workers in different departments. He asked the government to issue regularization order in favour of 43000 such daily wagers for which it promised in the last budget session.
Ashok Khajuri raised the issue of substantial hike in the Service Tax and Water Tax by the JMC and asked the Government to review the decision to save the common man from the unnecessary burden. Balwant Singh Mankotia, Ashwani Kumar Sharma and Yashpal Kundal alleged regional disparity in the selection list issued by the J&K Bank Ltd. They demanded an enquiry into the matter to restore justice to the meritorious candidates.
Radhe Shyam Sharma demanded immediate filling of vacant posts of daily wagers in Rajouri district for which the candidates were interviewed in 2006. Krishan Chander Bhagat raised the issue of bifurcation of some areas from Chenani Constituency to other areas and expressed his resentment on it and requested the Government to stop the move. Ashwani Kumar Sharma demanded immediate compensation for mine blast victims of Arnia border people. Mir Saifullah and Ch. Mohammad Ramzan demanded vacation of stay by the High Court on different select lists of SSRB in respect of the Kupwara district.
Jagdish Spolia called for immediate execution of repair of PDD lines, PHE schemes and roads in the far-flung areas of Kathua district, particularly in Basohli area.Mohammad Sharief Niaz demanded engagement of ReT teachers in the erstwhile Doda district to improve the functioning of primary schools. He also demanded opening of new primary schools in the rural areas.
