Early Times Report
SRINAGAR , Feb 24 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said the power of the youth was the most significant resource for dealing with developmental challenges and needs to be channelised in the right direction."The educational relation of youth with science and technology is all the more important to address problems and find out solutions to these," Omar said inaugurating the 'Innovation of Science Pursuit for Inspiring Research (INSPIRE)' camp. As part of the five-day event, organised by the Kashmir University and Union Science and Technology Ministry here, he said that the benefits of tremendous advancement in the field of science and technology have not reached the masses. "We understand that the promotion of science and technology is possible only when the youth are attracted to this field. It is important for tackling and addressing various challenges and concerns," he said. INSPIRE was an innovative programme to attract such talent to science, he said while expressing hope that the basic objective of communicating science as an exciting field for the youth to pursue is realised through such camps. The required human resource pool should will also be built through them for strengthening research and development in the field of science, he added. The youth of Jammu and Kashmir are second to none in talent and their grooming in scientific temperament is needed to ensure that they can address specific challenges that confront the state in various fields, he said.Omar also asked the management of Kashmir University to "liaison" with the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicines (IIIM) at Srinagar and Jammu for providing opportunities to research scholars. "You (Kashmir University) should develop liaison with this institution and help students to undertake research projects for which government would extend you all help," he said. The Chief Minister said his government has focused on consolidation in the education sector for providing up to the mark science laboratories and faculty in educational institutions. The de-linking of education from politics is required in order to create a conducive educational atmosphere in schools and colleges for making them centres of excellence, he added. The first INSPIRE camp was organised in July last year where 300 students of 10+2 level were provided an opportunity to interact with reputed scientists of the country and know about various success stories regarding scientific pursuit.
