Kamal for phased withdrawal of AFSPA, calls for addressing political issue of Kashmir | | | Bashir Assad JAMMU, Feb 24: Senior National Conference leader Dr Mustafa today urged upon the government of India to move in tandem to address the external and internal dimensions of Kashmir issue by taking measures for phased withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and gradual reduction of troops from within the populated areas of the state. Speaking on Motion of Thanks on Governors address in state assembly, Kamal regretted that there was no mention of removing bunkers from cities and towns and reducing the size of troops from the state to pave way for resolution of the political problem. "I appreciate that union minister for Industries Anand Sharma participated in biggest ever industrial exhibition in Pakistan recently, this shows that GoI has started playing role of big brother" Kamal said and added that though it was alleged that India is showing rigidity and now our nation is now demonstrating as big brother and rightly so. But unfortunately, added Kamal, there was no mention in the governor's address as to how the government was contemplating to address the internal dimensions of the problem. "There is a direct bearing of developments at the level of India and Pakistan on people of Jammu and Kashmir, so multidimensional approach to address the problem was important but unfortunately there was no mention in governor's address as to how the alienated youth of Kashmir shall be taken on board" added Kamal. Kamal further added that Government of India was on record that the accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India was unique and the issue demands 'unique resolution.' But when the issue of revocation of AFSPA was raised there was hue and cry and unfortunately there was no mention about the same in the address of the governor to the joint session of the legislature, said Kamal. The internal dimensions of the problem should be addressed in tandem, for that reduction in troop size and phased withdrawal of AFSPA was important" Kamal said. "All the security measures taken in 1990 to tackle militancy should be abandoned as militancy was almost over in the state. "It is the vested interest which keeps the pot boiling and I fear if measures are not taken people in army and police will also develop interest in the same" added Kamal. Lashing out at BJP for alleging the then government for killing Shayma Prasad Mukharji, Kamal said that Mukharji died in jail due to cardiac arrest and history was witness to it. Asking BJP not to dig the history, Kamal said that if BJP continues to malign the history, one is forced to remind them the massacre of 1947 of lakhs of Muslims in Jammu. On dilapidated condition of National Highway, Kamal rupees 800 crores were being given to BEACON for maintenance of the highway and it was their inefficiency that they could not keep the road in condition. On NHPC exploiting the water resources of Jammu and Kashmir, Kamal said that this was the worst ever exploitation that our resources are taken away from us to benefit others at the coat of the people of the state. |
