| Silent BJP, JKNPP, JSM stands exposed on corruption | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 24: Corruption is the single most important issue facing the country. It's one issue on which there is unanimity among all political parties with strong political sense to wipe it out. But strangely it was on the same the unity among political parties, especially the opposition parties, was missing today in the Assembly. PDP had brought adjournment on this issue in the Assembly. Its Members wanted debate and even stage walked. It was the issue which was supposed to get support from BJP, Panthers Party, JSM and even CPM. The onus was more so on the BJP which had not only sacked its seven MLAs in the state on same issue but the party had sacked even two Chief Ministers in Karnataka and Uttrakhand. The PDP had raised the point that adjournment motion is moved when there is a matter of extreme urgency and corruption is an important needing urgency to be discussed. The party was expecting both moral and number support from the combined opposition to floor the government on this issue. But strangely, all Jammu based parties, which had leveling charges of corruption against government, remained silent spectators when PDP Members came down to the Well. A sense of expectation was in the air in the House that BJP which had made 'clean governance' a pivotal of its politics and had been cornering the Central government on this issue would join the PDP. The PDP had also hoped that since this was issue not concerning to Kashmir but to the entire State, it will get support from the entire opposition especially BJP. Even Panthers Party which boycotted the Governor's address on Thursday on this very issue also didn't raise a single voice of support. And it was quite surprising, especially in view of the fact that party MLA Harsh Dev, has been not only the logical voice in the House, but has been quite vocal against corruption in the House in past. The BJP by remaining silent on this issue had given a opportunity to the PDP to make inroads in the Jammu, where it's already trying hard, and more so at a time when allegations of the corruption have been leveled against Cong ministers. |
