Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 24: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) found itself isolated in the House after its Adjournment Motion on corruption was not taken up by the Speaker Mohammed Akbar Lone soon after the Question Hour started this morning as the other opposition members did not show any interest in supporting the party on this vital issue.
Though all PDP members stood up from their seats to raise the issue but Speaker took of the Question Hour and did not pay any heed to them. However they were not supported by the other opposition members including BJP, NPP, CPI (M) and independents.
Though PDP raised the issue vociferously in the House and resorted to sloganeering followed by trooping in the Well and subsequent walkout the other opposition members were unmoved by their action and were of the view that the Question Hour be allowed to run smoothly.
Soon after the PDP members including the former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, Leader of Opposition, Mehbooba Mufti Mohammed Sayed walked out of the House the lone CPI (M) member Moahmmed Yousf Tarigami stood up and appealed the Speaker that house should discuss the issue of corruption as it is the concern of every member. Tarigami however regretted that in the Business Advisory Committee meeting of the House yesterday it was decided that all members will render cooperation and not try to disrupt the question Hour and efforts were made that the Question Hour should run smoothly.
He said that other opposition members would have also supported the issue but they should have allowed the Question Hour to run.
He however made an appeal to the Speaker that House should separately debate the issue. Later independent MLA from Langate, Engineer Abdul Rashid also raised the issue and said the corruption being serious issue should be discussed in the House.
However the BJP and NPP members did not make any comment and preferred to maintain a silence on the issue.
PDP members were demanding a debate on the issue saying that immediate debate has become necessary in view of notices issued by State Accountability Commission (SAC) to Chief Minister and other ministers.
