| 19 tourism development authorities set up in J&K: Tourism Minister | | | Jammu | Jan 20 In a written reply to an un-starred AQ No.58 of Harsh Dev Singh, Minister for Tourism has stated that 19 Development Authorities have been created/set up in the Tourism Sector which are Gulmarg Development Authority, Pahalgam Development Authority, Patnitop Development Authority, Sonamarg Development Authority, Kokernag Development Authority, Wullar-Manasbal Development Authority, Bhaderwah Development Authority, Lakhanpur-Sarthal Development Authority, Kishtwar Development Authority, Rajouri Development Authority, Poonch Development Authority, Leh Development Authority, Kargil Development Authority, Zanskar Development Authority, Aharbal Development Authority, Verinag Development Authority, Doodpathri Development Authority, Yousmarg Development Authority, Surinsar Mansar Development Authority. The Tourism Department has taken number of steps for development of Surinsar, Mansar Lakes over a period of time and presently a number of works are being taken up in hand for upgradation of tourism infrastructure there. The Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority stands already created for intensive development of Tourist infrastructure around the two lakes. The funds earmarked for Surinsar Mansar Development Authority for the year 2006-07 are Rs.50 lakh. The Wildlife Department is managing these water bodies under the centrally sponsored scheme "National Wetland Conservation Programme" of the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India. Besides, development activities are also taken up under the state Plan Scheme "Wetland Reserves". Development of Surinsar and Mansar lakes has also been included in the Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan. The project proposal in this regard has been submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India for consideration. The activities proposed in the said project include survey and demarcation, treatment of catchment on watershed basis, manual desilting and deweeding of the lake, management of biological diversity, fisheries development, maintenance of the deer park, publicity and awareness, promotion of eco-clubs/nature clubs etc. Approval of the project from the government of India is awaited. In written reply to un-starred A. Q. No. 116 tabled by Smt. Khem Lata Wakhlu , Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj stated that as many as 62 villages in Kashmir Division and 57 in Jammu Division are being developed as Model villages in the state under Prime Ministers Reconstruction Programme. An amount of Rs.120 lakh have been earmarked for development of each Model village. Broadly, uniform model of development has been adopted for addressing the core needs of the identified model villages. The different activities identified in said model villages include construction and upgradation of lanes/drains, Community Facility Centre (CFC), Rural Information Centre (RIC), development of playgrounds, children park, solar lights, shopline, community sanitary points, entry gate, link roads/crossing culverts, ghats, steps etc. The amounts spent in Kashmir division so far on Model villages is Rs.414.35 lakh in district Baramulla, Rs. 88.56 lakh in district Pulwama, Rs. 120.67 in district Kupwara and Rs. 138.782 in district Leh up to ending December, 2006. Similarly the amount spent in Jammu division is Rs. 583.58 lakh in Jammu district, Rs.274.87 lakh in Kathua district, Rs.378.87 lakh in district Udhampur, Rs. 400.87 lakh in Rajouri district, Rs. 177.21 lakh in Poonch district and Rs.429.35 lakh in Doda district up to ending November, 2006. |
