Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 25 : Inspector General Police Kashmir Range, S M Sahai, Saturday said that Police will act as a facilitator for the rehabilitation of released militants who have shunned the path of violence.
In its first bid to reach out to the released militants of Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts, Sahai held an interactive session with them at SKICC Srinagar.
The IGP in his address to the released militants reiterated the commitment of State Government for the rehabilitation of released militants who have returned to the mainstream so that they can live a dignified life. Sahai impressed upon the participants to form NGO's at every district that can provide a platform for the released militants to coordinate with state Government and the police for their rehabilitation. The IGP assured full support to the released militants for their rehabilitation in the main stream.
About 1500 released militants from Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts attended the interactive session wherein, they apprised the IGP Kashmir of their grievances and problems that they are facing.
The speakers brought to the notice that they are facing a stigma in the society as well as the administration.
Their relatives are not being given the police clearance for passports and they face mental agony for being summoned regularly to the police stations. During the interaction the IGP stated that the Government has relaxed the passport verification provisions for the relatives of the released militants and now the relatives of the released militants will be cleared by the police. "However, keeping in view the high volume of such cases that have come up after the relaxation passport verifications will be completed in due course of time," he said.
The IGP also assured the released militants that their attendance to the police stations would be curtailed to minimum. The interactive session was also attended by Deputy Inspector General of police, CKR AG Mir, SSP Srinagar Ashiq Bukhari, SSP Budgam Uttam Chand and other senior officers of police.
