IRP 19th Bn bags men's overall championship trophy
Ct. Shabir Kumar of 17th Bn emerges fastest runner

JAMMU, Feb 25: The 19th battalion of the Indian Reserve Police (IRP) today clinched the coveted overall championship trophy in men's section while in women's category the results were on expected lines with IR 15th retaining the trophy in the five-day long Inter-battalion Sports Meet of J&K Armed Police which concluded with the holding of valedictory function at Gulshan Ground, here. There was hardly any contest for the top place among women athletes with exclusive women's battalion of IR 15th secured record 164 points as against just 36 in the account of second position holders, IR 17th. On the contrary, the competition was so close in men's section when IR 19th Bn emerged overall champion with 67 points leaving behind IR 17th with 63 points. The IR 19th secured maximum 17 points in weightlifting while IR 17th obtained 35 points in athletics alone. The IRP 8th also performed well to remain at third position with 53 points while IR 3rd had 34 points in their kitty. As many as eight battalions fail to even open their account. These were JKAP 3rd, JKAP 4rd, JKAP 5th, JKAP 11, IRP 5th, IRP 10th and IRP 14th. Earlier, IR 4th Bn won the tug of war gold decided today beating IR 3rd 2-1 in the final. Similarly, the first place in women's tug of war went to IR 15th, who beat IR 12th.
In the interesting 100 meters race, which held this evening, constable Shabir Kumar of IR 17th bagged first place. Second place went to constable, Raj Choudhary of IR 18th while constable, Ramneek Chandel of AP 13th remained third. In the valedictory function, Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes to Gazetted Officers. Earlier, organizing secretary of the competition, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), K Rajendra Kumar welcomed the distinguished gathering and presented a detailed report of the sports meet. A host of other senior serving and retired police officers were among those present in the closing function.
