PP Tigers script 5-wkt win over YCC in inaugural tie

Poonch, Feb 25: Purani Poonch Tigers thrashed Y C C by 5 wickets in the inaugural match of the Poonch Premier League T20 Cricket Tournament which got underway at Poonch today. Earlier, batting first, YCC scored 115 runs in the stipulated overs, which in reply, PP Tigers chased easily by losing 5 wickets. It was the most exciting experience for thousands of spectators in Poonch town besides cricket players when they witnessed the most exciting ever inauguration of a cricket tournament being organized by Romeo Force under the supervision of 6 sector RR with active cooperation of Department of Youth Services and Sports.
In a bid to popularize sports culture among the youths of this far flung and bodrer District of Poonch, Romeo Force, after their brilliant job on terrorism front, now enters the Cricket filed to strengthen Army Public relations, today started the Poonch Premier league Tournament with big pomp and show. A unique and thrilling performance by artists on stage especially called from Punjab made the atmosphere memorable one for the Poonchites. Students of Christ schools were seen in the field with Indians flags on their hands showering in all direction made the environment more beautiful. G.O.C Romeo Forcer, Maj Gen. G.S Shergill was the Chief Guest on the Occasion and in presence of ADDC Syed Anwar Hussain Shah, they declared the championship open from 60 feet above the ground by riding in a hot air ballon. "Cricket is the most popular sports in J&K and we are happy to promote this in far flung area of Poonch and I thanks audience for appreciating our this venture", said Gen G.S Shergill .
Earlier, Vijay Kumar, who was anchoring the opening ceremony, welcomed all the guests and presented a brief detail of the championship In this tournament, 12 teams are playing on league cum knock out basis. Major Alok presented the man of Match award to Himalaya for his all-round display.
