| Indo-Bulgarian Project aims at technical upgradation of orchards | | | Jammu | Jan 20
Minister for Horticulture, Irrigation and Flood Control, Tourism and PHE Mohammad Dilawar Mir informed Legislative Assembly today in reply to a question by Mohammad Khalil Naik that Indo-Bulgarian project is spread over an area of 130 hectares (2600 kanals of land) at Zainapora farm of the horticulture department. The yearly expenditure incurred on salaries, wages, pesticides and fertilizers for the project is Rs. 44.21 lakh in 2003-04, Rs. 60.06 lakh in 2004-05, Rs. 44.19 lakh in 2005-06 and Rs. 36.39 lakhs in 2006-07 upto ending November 2006. He said the project is not a commercial activity and its primary objective is technical upgradation of the orchards in the state. Revenue accured during the last four years from the farm is Rs. 8.13 lakh in 2003-04, Rs. 16.29 lakhs in 2004-05, Rs. 30.37 lakhs in 2005-06 and Rs. 12.51 lakhs in 2006-07 upto ending November 2006. He said the department has taken various measures to boost the apple production through the project which include study, adaptability of different kinds and varieties of fruit plants, clonal propagation etc. In reply to a question by Jugal Kishore (BJP) the Minister said that all habitations of Nagrota constituency will be provided drinking water facility by 2008-09. In reply to another question by Mian Altaf Ahmad, Minister said that flood protection works at some vital spots alongside of Sindh Nallah have been taken up for execution at an estimated cost of Rs 26.741 lakhs during current year, he assured that Legislators views would be taken note of while implementing works. Replying suplementaries by Dr. Mehboob Baig, Sartaj Madni and Mohammad Syed Akhoon, the Minister said that first priority is given on construction of protection bunds at vulnerable spots. In reply to another question by Javed Rana, Dilawar Mir said that the funds provided during the last two years to Flood Control Department are Rs 40.50 lakhs to Poonch, Rs 4 lakhs to Rajouri, Rs 352.60 lakhs to Jammu and Rs 118.94 lakhs to Kathua in 2004-05 whereas in 2005-06 it has been Rs 123.26 lakhs, Rs 33.50 lakh, Rs 627.42 and Rs 219.88 lakhs respectively for Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu and Kathua districts. In reply to yet another question by Mohammad Aslam Khan, the Minister for Tourism said that a Tourist Reception Centre has been sanctioned at Rajouri under the integrated development of Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch circuit scheme, approved by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The land has been identified for the purpose and the work will be started as soon as the possession of land is taken over after completing the formalities. Minister for Rural Development Jugal Kishore told Legislative Assembly today in reply to a question by G. M. Saroori that under Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan one village in each block is being developed as Model village. Accordingly 14 villages in Doda district, one in each block have been taken up for development as Model village. In reply to another clubbed question by Abdul Majid Wani and Syed Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari, the Minister said that two blocks namely Gundna and Marmat have already been created. Similarly, the other new blocks created in the state are Duggan, Bafliaz, Dachan, Darbshala, Gundana, Nagsani, Marmat, Kunzar, Singhpora, Wavoora, Kalaroosa, Devsar, and Pahlloo, through internal adjustments. He said the new blocks have been created on public demand and added that the matter is being vigorously pursued for creation of necessary staff and budget provision. As soon as the necessary creation along the proposed lines would be entailed, the block offices would be set up with requisite infrastructure and manpower, he added. Sharief-ud-Din Shariq, Harshdev Singh and Rashpal Singh raised supplementaries to the question. In reply to yet another question by Kanta Andotra, Minister said that as per the guidelines issued by Government of India, IAY scheme is designed to provide shelter to houseless people living in rural areas and assistance for upgradation of Kacha houses with special thrust on schedule caste and schedule tribe communities.
