Anyone Working Against India Must Pay Price: Abdullah | | | early times report JAMMU, Feb 25: The final decision on Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru's mercy petition rests with the President, Union minister Farooq Abdullah today said and asserted that anybody working against India "must pay the price" for it. "The mercy petition is lying with the President of India. It is now for the President to give her consent -- wait till the consent comes," Abdullah said. "As an Indian, anybody who has worked against India must pay the price for it," the Union Minister for New and Renewable Ener-gy said outside the Asse-mbly. On Moderate Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq's alleged provocative speech at Jamia Masjid recently, Abdullah said, "India is a free country. In this free country, everybody has a freedom of speech". The minister, however, said "there is no freedom of speech against territorial integrity of the country. I will not tolerate this because of being an Indian". "Whether it is Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq or Farooq Abdullah -- all are Indians. We have some issues with the Centre which we want to solve," he said. On State Accountability Commission's notices to several state ministers including the chief minister, Abdullah said "there are names of everybody, let them prove, I am not bothered what they are going to do, I am not worried". On his brother Mustafa Kamal's frequent controversial remarks, Abdullah said he will "not be representing the party in next elections" if he continues with this trend. "Obviously next time, he (Mustafa Kamal) will not be elected (to J&K Assembly on behalf of NC) if he continues on this track," he said. "Whatever action I had to take I have taken. I have removed him from post of Additional General Secr-etary and chief spokesman of the party," he said. Accusing Kamal of having a habit of talking out of terms, Abdullah said, "I have told him to think before speaking. I had told him several times to stop issuing statements. He is ruining himself." Kamal had recently said in the Assembly that dog menace had created a scare among people in the Valley due to the presence of Armed forces. On PDP's demand of discussion on the issue of corruption, the National Conference chief said, "PDP president Mehbooba Mufti speaks whatever she likes. She speaks without thinking. I am sorry for that. She is eroding her own position." On the pandemonium in the Legislative House by PDP, Abdullah said issues can only be resolved through discussions and debates. |
