PDP disrupts the proceedings for second consecutive day on corruption | | | Bashir Assad JAMMU, Feb 25: For second consecutive day Saturday opposition Peoples Democratic Party continued to press for special discussion on corruption since morning. As soon Speaker announced commencement of question hour, PDP legislators stood up from their seats and demanded that Speaker should first fix time for debating corruption in accordance to the Adjournment Motion moved by the party, however, Speaker started the question hour without giving any heed to the PDP legislators demand. When PDP legislators kept asking for decision on their adjournment motion, CPI (M) Legislator MY Tarigami tried to convince the Speaker to listen to PDP and decide the fate of adjournment motion moved by them, however, Speaker rejected his plea saying that he cannot revert the decision taken in the Business Advisory Committee meeting wherein it was decided that question hour should not be disrupted under any circumstances, whatsoever. On this Panthers Party MLA Harshdev Singh stood up and reminded the Speaker that when this side (PDP) was in government, opposition demanded discussion on the same issue of corruption which was allowed, what was difficult in it right now. Speaker again rejected his plea saying. "You are backtracking from you own commitment, do you want to amend the decision of Business Advisory Committee". PDP legislator AR Veeri shouted, 'we are within our rights to seek decision on adjournment motion which is well under rules of business. Nazir Gurezi and Sajad Kichloo from National Conference entered into verbal dual with PDP legislators for quit some time. Meanwhile PDP legislators, AR Veeri, Rafi Ahmad Mir, Javed Mustafa Mir, Sayed Bashir Ahmad, Sayed Basharat Bukhari, Choudry Zulfkar Ahmad, Dr. Shafiq Ahmad, Abdul Gafar Sofi, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Nizamuddin Bhat and Muhammad Khalil Band walked into the well of the slogans shouting slogans, "Corrupt Sakar- Hai, Hai, MLC ki rate kya -50 lakh aur kya, Ministry ki rate kya-Ek crode aur kya. Basharat Bukhari in the middle of the well shouted at Finance Minister Ab. Rahim Rather saying, government should made separate allocations for corruption in the coming budget. Abdul. Haq Khan while hitting at Rather shouted "smart card ka jawab do" On this Speaker asked the PDP legislators to move back to their seats. " You take your seats I will announce my verdict on your adjournment motion. PDP legislators left the well and got to their seats asking Speaker to announce the decision. On sensing the mood of the opposition, chief minister Omar Abdullah intervened, " Corruption is a serious issue, house should debate it but we should not disrupt the house. If opposition wants to discuss the issue, they are welcome, government has no problem in it, Speaker should fix time for it", however PDP president Mehbooba Mufti shouted back saying CM was himself involved, what can he say. However, minister for Finance AR Rather, PHE Minister Taj Mohiudin, Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla and Minister for CAPD, Qamar Ali Akhoon continued to readout written replies to QDs asked by Harshdev Singh, Lal Chand, Chaman Lal Gupta, Muhammad Irfan Shah, NA Gurezi, Tsetan Namgyal, Feroz Ahmad Khan, Radhy Sham and Peer Afaq Ahmad. But PDP legislators kept crying for fixing time. At around 10:42, Speaker announcement that discussion on motion of thanks shall start at 3 pm in the evening. Soon the house resumed normal business. |
