| Demand 73rd amendment be extended to J&K | | Sarpanches and Panches hold protest in Thathri | | Early Times Report
Thathri, Feb 26: A large no of Sarpanches and Panches drawn from different parts of Thathri held a peaceful protest and warned Govt that they will not allow anybody to make any attempt to interfere in the Panchayat Raj Act 1989.
They demanded holding of BDC elections as promised in the Act.
Sarpanch and Panches had gathered under the banner of Block Thathri Sarpanch Association.
They were demanding that 73rd amendment be extended to the state of Jammu and Kashmir and full flagged Panchayati Raj be implemented.
Jammu Kashmir Panchayati Raj act be implemented in word and spirit in the state. The Sarpanches also warned the government of dire consequences if any such law is made due to which member assembly or council gets power of interference in Panchayats. Beside this, the Sarpanches also demanded that salary package be given to the Panches and Sarpanches at par with other elected representatives .
The protest was organised on the call of Master (Retd) Fazal Alam Wani Sarpanch Panchayat Chiralla and Gen Sec of Thathri Block Sarpanch Association.
