NYC holds protest, demands continuation of services | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 26: In protest against government’s ‘indifferent attitude’ towards their demands, the volunteers of National Youth Corps (NYC) today held a protest near Press Club, Jammu. Early morning a large number of volunteer assembled near the Press Club and raised slogans against State Government and held dharna there under the banner of All J&K NYC Volunteers Association. The dharna was led by Jammu Division President Mukesh Sharma, Gourav Bazala, Jagdeep Singh, Sunil Choudhary and others. Mukesh Sharma said that we are 8000 volunteers who were deployed by J&K Government under the NYC scheme of Ministry of Youth Affairs, Govt. of India. These volunteers are deployed in different departments of J&K State including Rural Development Deptt, Youth Services & Sports, Tourism Deptt, Finance Deptt., Municipal Corporations, Social Welfare, Shrine Board, DC Office, NHRM, Disaster Management and Education. Sharma said that all these volunteers are highly educated and Government recruit them on the basis of their merit. NYC leaders lambasted the State Govt. for its apathetic attitude. They said that the government should not have deployed new volunteers and 8000 volunteers who are already serving should be continued. They also demanded to regulate the NYC volunteers and to increase their wages. NYC volunteers warned the concerned authorities to fulfil their demands otherwise they would be forced to intensify the agitation. |
