Baig offers support to CM | `Minister's blackmail Omar Abdullah' | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 26: Former Deputy Chief Minister, Muzaffar Husain Baig today offered support to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in weeding out corruption at the top. Baig said there was need for politicians to work collectively for development of the state. "The politicians must desist from conventional politics", he said. Baig said Chief Minister was an institution and politicians must strengthen it to run the system smoothly. "If the Chief Minister is weak the system is also weak. Beig feels Omar was being 'blackmailed' by some cabinet colleagues of his own party. "They threaten him of toppling his government', he said. "However, if he takes action against such elements, we will support him", he assured. According to him time has come when politicians must rise above party considerations and work for development of the state. "I without taking my party on board offered un conditional support to Omar if he would take action against his tainted ministers to weed out corruption at top level," Beigh claimed, adding that this was not an ordinary statement to make and that too on the floor of the house. "I wanted to convey a message to all political parties that CM's institution should be held supreme," he said. Beig said if Republicans could get Democrats in their cabinet and Germany rival parties could form a joint government for the benefit of public why could not it be a precursor for Kashmiri politicians. The PDP leader talked about preservation of forests and water bodies. He also talked about strengthening the education sector. He made a mention of Article 356 and empowerment of people. Baig also stressed need for opening up of traditional trade routes so that Kashmir is linked back to entire central Asia for trade which could bring an economic revolution in the state. "If all mainstream parties come together in urging Centre to address such issues, Centre will have no choice but to accept it," Beigh claimed, About his argument with Speaker, Muhammad Akber Lone, Baig said his intention was to as the Chief Minister to strengthen his position. "Mud slinging was not on my mind', he made clear. |
