Mehbooba likely to raise Haji Yusuf custodial death case in the house today | | | Bashir Assad Jammu, Feb26: Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is likely to raise the issue of Haji Yusuf custodial killing in the house while participating in discussion on governor's address. PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, according to sources, will speak on governors address tomorrow and among other issues like 'corruption' ' governance deficit' 'misappropriation of public money' and discriminatory attitude of the government, Mehbooba is likely to raise the issue of alleged custodial killing of NC activist Haji Yusuf. If sources are to be believed, Mehbooba, for the first time since 2008, will ask chief minister to step down directly. It merits a mention here that during last three years, PDP ambiguously blamed that the government has 'lost moral authority to govern' but it never used the straight vocabulary of asking the chief minister to resign. On many occasions like alleged Shopaian double murder and rape case in 2009 and summer unrest of 2010, PDP vociferously staged anti-government demonstrations but never asked the chief minister to step down. However, if everything goes according to plans, taking clue from sacking of GM saroori and Divesting the portfolio from Peezada Muhammad Sayed, Mehbooba will ask the chief minister to resign to pave way for independent inquiry. It merits a mention that PDP has already rejected the inquiry by justice Bedi Commission saying that important evidences have been destroyed by the government and that the commission has lost credibility under the circumstances. " It needs thorough investigation by some independent and credible agency not inquiry" PDP had said earlier. The death of Yousuf in police custody after he was handed over to Crime Branch at Chief Minister's residence on September 29, 2010, had snowballed into a major controversy with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah being directly accused by the opposition parties. State government had immediately ordered for a judicial probe of the incident. Chief Minister had said he was ready to face the judicial commission. "I will answer whatever questions are posed to me and I have no doubt that as a result of this judicial commission the facts will speak for themselves and all lies that I have been bombarded with since Friday last will be shown to be absolute lies," Omar had said. |
