HP trounces J&K in Vijay Hazare trophy

JAMMU, Feb 26: Despite a good all-round show by Parvez Rasool and a superb display of bowling skills by left-arm spinner Raman Dutta, Jammu and Kashmir suffered a narrow defeat by 3 wickets against Himachal Pradesh in the ongoing Vijay Hazare trophy match at Palam-A Ground, Model Sports Complex in Delhi today.
Batting first, J&K scored 211 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Openers Arshid Bhatt and Adil Reshi gave a good start to J&K by scoring a partnership of 50 odd runs. Arshid contributed 25 runs and Adil 22. After their dismissal, Ian Dev Singh and Shubam Khajuria fell cheaply to leave the responsibility on the shoulders of skipper Hardeep Singh and the middle order batsman Parvez Rasool, who responded well and made a partnership of 61 runs which finally helped the team to set a respectable target for the rivals. Hardeep scored 29 runs, while Parvez contributed 26 runs to the total. Ram Dayal played a superb innings of 34 runs down the order along with Aditya Pratap Singh (22), Manik Gupta (17) and Bandeep Singh (13). For Himachal Pradesh, Rahul Singh took 3 wickets, while R Dhawan and Abhinav Bali captured 2 wickets each and Vikramjeet Malik claimed one wicket. With good contributions from S Sriram (44), Abhinav Bali (34), P Chopra (28) and Ajay Ratra (24), Himachal Pradesh chased the target in 48.4 overs by losing 7 wickets. Mukesh Sharma (20), Paras Dogra (19) and Amit Kumar (16) were the other contributors. Raman Dutta was the pick of the bowlers for J&K, scalping 3 wickets in his 9 overs by conceding 32 runs, while Parvez Rasool took 2 wickets in his quota of 10 overs by giving away 41 runs. Hardeep Singh also claimed one wicket. With this loss, J&K has yet to open the points tally in this tournament as it suffered a heavy thrashing by 125 runs at the hands of formidable Delhi and lost to Services and Punjab by 14 and 19 runs respectively. Now, J&K will face Haryana in the last match on February 28.
