CCED wins opening tie in CGEWCC cricket

JAMMU, Feb 27: Customs and Central Excise Department (CCED) XI defeated National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) by four wickets in the inaugural match of the Twenty20 cricket tournament, organised by the Center Government Employees Welfare Co-ordination Committee (CGEWCC) at MA Stadium, here today.
Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, NSSO set a target of 168 runs for the loss of six wickets, which, in reply, CCED chased in 19.1 overs losing six wickets.
Ajay Kumar and Naresh Kumar were top scorers with 50 and 47 runs respectively while Ajit Pal Singh (19) and Sunil Chaku (14) were other contributors to the team's total. From CCED, Gurvinder, Shamsher Singh and Charanjit Singh shared one wicket each.
Later, CCED chased the total sparing five deliveries of their innings with four wickets in hand. Bhupinder Singh played fine innings of 67 runs including eight hits to the fence while Charanjit Singh made match winning 53 runs studded with a six and seven boundaries.
Ajit Pal Singh bagged two wickets while P S Jamwal took one from NSSO.
For his quick-fire innings of 53, Charanjit Singh was declared man of the match. Shashi Jamwal and Sanjay Raina were the umpires while BS Bhan maintained the score.
Earlier, the competition was declared open by Deputy Commissioner, CCED, C L Dogra, who was chief guest. This tournament is being held under the supervision of working secretary of CGEWCC, Deputy Accountant General JL Mina. Among others present were Jatinder Singh, Ravi Singh and Ashok Chada.
FIXTURE: Income Tax XI shall take on All India Radio at 9 am tomorrow.
