GDC Paloura organizes 2-day seminar on 'Gandhi and World Peace | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 27 : Government Degree College, Paloura Jammu organized 2-day National Seminar on 'Gandhi and World Peace' in collaboration with Gandhian studies Centre, University of Jammu at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium today. Minister for Higher Education Abdul Gani Malik inaugurated the seminar. Resource persons drawn from various states of the Country and abroad attended the seminar. At the outset Principal of the College, Prof. Hemla Aggarwal welcomed the Chief Guest and apprised about the objective of organizing the seminar. Director Colleges, Prof Muqbil Chisti, Principals of various colleges, faculty and officers of Jammu University were also present on the occasion. The Minister released Newsletter of the college and souvenir of the seminar on the occasion. The Minister while addressing the seminar said that Gandhi was a leader of masses who preached lesson of tolerance and equality. He said Gandhi ji lived a simple life but was a man of high thinking stature. He preached communal harmony and taught secularism to the people of different faiths of the country. Peace was his motto and wished to ensure global peace at all costs. The Minister hoped that 2-day seminar on Gandhi and World Peace will bring forth certain concrete recommendations for the people belonging to all walks of life so that peace with progress and prosperity is assured in nook and corner of the state as well as country. He stressed to follow the Gandhian ethics, values and holistic approach to the emergence of peaceful world order. 'Dr. Gopal who is a doyen amongst the national and global university dons in international affairs and Gandhian philosophy. To him Gandhian thought can show us the light of the day otherwise the days of this spaceship earth are numbered', the Minister added. Director Colleges Dr. Muqbil Chisti while paying rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi said that it is need of hour to teach younger generations the lesson of tolerance and non-violence cherished by great leader Gandhi Ji. She said that the subject of Gandhian philosophy should be introduced in the curriculum of students at school, college and university level. Prof. Anurag Gangal, Director Gandhian Centre for peace and conflict studies Jammu University, presented the introductory note about the seminar. Prof. Darvesh Gopal presented key note address. As many as 15 experts, professors, scholars, which included 3 Iranian Scholars from Chandigarh University are participating in the seminar. A total of 30 papers will be presented in the 2-day National seminar, spread over 4 technical sessions. On the first day of the seminar, the speakers threw light on 'major conflicts and world peace under the chairmanship of Prof. Sanjeev Sharma and Dr. Shalinder Singh. Prof. B. N. Chitlang spoke on 'philosophy of non-violence in Gandhian thoughts. Prof. Jigar Mohammad spoke on 'Gandhi and Community Harmony. Dr. Harmeet Singh presented a paper on 'view of Gandhi and of the Indian State of Nuclear weapons'. Dr. Poonam Chopra threw light on 'relevance of 'Gandhian philosophy in modern world'. Dr. Mohammad Monir Alam addressed on 'India's strategic culture: a Gandhian perspective. Dr. Ashu Pasricha spoke about 'Gandhi and status of women'. Dr. Pragya Sharma in the second session presented a paper on Mahatma Gandhi and women liberation. Several other eminent speakers participated in the second session. Prof. Bharat Bhushan Anand organizing Secretary of the National Seminar presented vote of thanks on the occasion. |
