Centre should fulfill constitutional promises made to J&K: Tarigami | Assembly-2012 | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 27 : Cautioning against the attempt to divide the State on the basis of regions, religion, caste and creed, the State Secretary CPI (M) and MLA, M. Y. Tarigami today called for Joint efforts to strengthen the bonds between the people of all the regions and sub-regions adding that onus lies on the legislators to represent the State as whole for uniting the people. He said unity in diversity is the hallmark of our rich ethos which shall have to be preserved at all costs. Participating in the debate on the motion of thanks on Governor's address in the legislative Assembly today, Tarigami urged for reframing constitutional mechanism to make people of the all the regions of the State as parterners in the process of development. He said each and every part of the State has a right for equal opportunities of progress and development adding that we should get inspiration from the European countries in this regard where smaller populations enjoy independent sovereignty. Tarigami strongly advocated for strengthening the relations between the State and the Centre and urged for implementations of the Justice Sagreer Commission report which is still under the examination of cabinet sub-committee. He also called for implementation of the recommendations of various Working Groups constituted by the Prime Minister of India adding these recommendation and action taken report on these should be made public. He urged for fulfilling the constitutional promises made to the people of the State by the Centre to restore its autonomy under the constitution of India. He asked the coalition Government to initiate fresh efforts in this regard. Tarigami also called for withdrawing draconian laws like AFSPA and pleaded for providing all the requisite facilities to the POK refugees. Tarigami also underscored the need for better and cordial relations between the two neighbouring countries of India and Pakistan, which is in the larger interests of the J&K State. "The two neighbouring countries should bring flexibility in their stands viz Kashmir issue so that a lasting peace is ensured in the entire sub-continents". Let Indian Parliament come forward to initiate a sustained dialogue for solution to the vexed Kashmir problem," Tarigami added. Referring to the Afzal Guru case, Tarigami said terrorism in any of its manifestations needs criticism but world experience says death sentence is no substitute for any deterrence." |
