Opposition berate govt for its failure in resolving unemployment problem | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 27: Opposition leaders, including those belonging to the BJP, the Panthers Party and the PDP, have blamed the National Conference lead coalition Government in Jammu and Kashmir for having delayed filling vacant posts in various Government departments including the civil secretariat. These leaders, including Harsh Dev Singh, Ashok Khajuria and Mohd Dilawar Mir, said that there were more than 2,000 posts, including over 300 class IV posts, were vacant in various Departments and in the civil secretariat. They have urged the Government to fill all the vacant posts speedily and increase job avenues in other departments and public sect or undertakings in the state. Harsh Dev said that as a result of faulty implementation of the plan for providing jobs to the educated unemployed youth the number of unemployed youths registered with the employment exchanges in the state has gone up to over six lakhs from about two lakhs during the last five years. He said when compared to the national level figure the unemployment ratio in Jammu and Kashmir is 5.2 per cent(5.4 per cent among men and 3.5 per cent among women) against 3.1 per cent in men and 3 per cent among women at the all India level. Other PDP and BJP leaders said that since t he purpose of securing jobs through employment exchanges had been defeated during the last three years not all unemployed youth register their names in the exchanges. They urged the state Government to fix an annual target for providing jobs for the unemployed youth besides prevailing upon the centre to fix a quota for joys and women belonging to Jammu and Kashmir in the Armed forces, paramilitary forces and the public sector undertakings. |
